First, drinking tea protects hearts. Tea drinkers will jump at the good news. The research done in the Boston area shows that drinking at least two cups of black or green tea a day could reduce your chance of dying after a heart attack by 44 percent.
Second, exercise preserves good health. Exercise offers all of the obvious benefits: it helps to lose weight, grow bigger muscles and make a healthier heart. And it also calms our nerves. All forms of exercise help people to lighten up. Experts say just 30 minutes of brisk activity most or all days of the week can offer you a powerful benefit.
Third, we should try our best to fight the flu. Hand-washing prevents spreading viruses from one person to another. Fresh fruit and vegetables rich in vitamin C are necessary part of wintertime diet. Winter indoor heating dries out the air and makes us easily come down with the flu. You can simply place an open bowl of water over the heaters. Cold weather is no excuse for staying indoor.

Do you have a tough math test coming up If you listen to some classical piano music just before the test, you might end up with a higher score. Researchers at a university in California conducted an experiment. They asked a group of college students to listen to some piano music by a famous 18th-century composer before taking a math test. They were surprised to find that the students' scores jumped about 8 to 9 points. Classical music seems to excite nerve activity in the brain that is similar to the activity that occurs when a person is figuring out a math problem. However, the scientists warn that before you get too excited about using this method before your next math test, you should remember that the effects only last for 10 or 15 minutes.
Would rock music work as well as piano music "No," the scientists say. In fact, less complex music might even interfere with a person's reasoning ability.

As I went down the
wooden snowy steps, I held the rough fence with one hand, held my crying
daughter Kelly with the other and made my way into the yard. I knew everything
would be okay if I located my mother.
Instead of a smile,
she greeted me with concern. I knew she had read my face as I'd approached. "What's
wrong " she asked.
I held the baby out. "I
can't take care of this baby," I said simply. My mother didn't take her
from my arms as I expected. She smiled slightly, and then replied firmly, "You
have to take care of that baby." This was not the reply I wanted. Couldn't
she hear the baby crying I wanted her to fix this problem. Instead, she took
off her gloves and asked me in for some coffee.
Mom held Kelly while I
held the coffee cup. At that moment the baby finally stopped crying. I glanced
over at Kelly, content in my mother's arms. Her tiny blue eyes were fixed on
me, as if to ask, "What's the problem here, Mama " Her sweet,
familiar breath eased the stress in the air. I looked at my mother, feeling
foolish but relieved. She stood and placed an arm around my shoulders. "By
the time you came along, things were quite the opposite for me. But with your
elder brother, you can bet that I often felt helpless."
The baby showed no
signs of our afternoon struggle, while my own hair remained damp and messy from
sweat and worry. "Crying is the only way babies have to communicate. Try
to listen to her cries and hear them as language. She's not crying to annoy
you; she's trying to send a message with the only voice she has."
Once again, her gentle
guidance had supported me through a storm and back into clear skies.
24.Why did the author visit her mother in the rough weather
A.She was concerned about her mother's safety.
B.She was helpless and needed her mother's help.
C.She wanted to learn to care for babies from her mother.
D.She intended to borrow some money from her mother.
25.How did the author's mother probably feel when bringing her up
A.Inexperienced but patient. B.Considerate but impatient.
C.Experienced and confident. D.Thoughtless and unconcerned.
26.What did the author's mother want to express in paragraph 5
A.Taking care of babies was difficult.
B.Babies enjoyed annoying their parents.
C.The author should let her baby cry more.
D.Parents should understand and accept babies' crying.
27.What can we infer about the author's mother
A.She usually goes shopping with the author.
B.She lives a lonely life without her children.
C.She often gives advice to the author in trouble.
D.She likes to raise small children for young mothers.
【答案】24.B
25.C
26.D
27.C

By the time you came along, things were quite the opposite for me. But with your elder brother, you can bet that I often felt helpless.”到你出生时,一切都完全不同了。但养你哥哥,我绝对经常感到无助。可知,通过这里的对比推断,作者的母亲在养育作者也就是第二个孩子时,已经比较有经验、有信心了。故选C。
26.考查细节理解。根据第五段中的"Crying is the only way babies have to communicate. Try to listen to her cries and hear them as language.”哭是婴儿交流的唯一方式。试着把她的哭声当成一种语言去倾听。可知,作者母亲想要表达的是,哭泣既然是婴儿唯一的交流方式,作为父母就应当尽量去理解、去接纳这种方式。故选D。
27.考查推理判断。根据最后一段"Once again, her gentle guidance had supported me through a storm and back into clear skies.”又一次,她温柔的指导支撑着我度过了一场风暴,天空重归澄澈。可知,once again一词表明,作者的母亲多次、经常给作者提供建议、解决问题。故选C。

The first time my
parents watched me compete in a mountain bike race, they tried to get me to
quit. While I was riding down a hill, I hit a huge rock, flew through the air
and crashed to the ground. However, this kind of thing happens all the time. I
just got up as fast as I could, got back on my bike and kept going. And I won
that race, despite taking quite a spill!
My earliest bike
memories are of my father taking me out for rides in the child seat on the back
of his ten-speed. A couple years later, I got my first bike. But my parents
wouldn't let me ride more than a few blocks from the house until I was ten. The
morning of my tenth birthday, I got my older sister to take me on a long ride.
We ended up at my aunt's house. I was totally exhausted and every muscle in my
body ached. But I didn't care. I knew that this was only the beginning, and all
I could think about was where my next trip would take me.
When I was in the
eighth grade, our gym teacher, Mr. Raines, sent out a flyer about starting a
mountain bike club. I ran to his office between classes and signed up. Over the
next few months, the ten of us who joined the club worked on our biking skills.
Besides taking us out riding, Mr. Raines taught us about bike safety, and
showed us how to properly maintain and repair our bikes. He also helped us form
a mountain bike team. At first, we competed against each other. Later, we went
up against other schools. We continued to train and compete all through high
school.
Biking has been the
major focus of my life. Those early trips on the back of my father's bike got
me started. The long rides with my sister increased my enthusiasm. Then, the
training and competitions in the bike club guaranteed that I would turn into a
lifelong bike fan. I think everyone should have a hobby like this-something that is good for them and makes them happy.

A.He suffered a big fall. B.He lost the competition.

33.How did the author feel about his trip to his aunt's home

A.He repaired the used bikes. B.He taught biking skills.
C.He took part in races. D.He gave out lots of flyers.

I think everyone should have a hobby like this-something that is good for them and makes them happy.” 故选A。

It's easy to talk yourself out of exercising. Even when you have the best intentions to work out, excuses are so easy to find — ‘I'm too tired’, ‘I'm busy’ or ‘The weather is bad’. Don't worry!”说服自己不锻炼很容易。即使你有最好的打算去锻炼,借口也很容易找到——"我太累了"、"我很忙"或"天气不好"。别担心!结合下文介绍了让健身计划顺利进行的技巧可知,让自己开始并坚持锻炼是有法可循的。 F. The following tricks can keep your fitness routine on track. "下面的技巧可以让你的健身计划顺利进行"符合语境,故选F。

40.根据空前"It takes weeks to see real changes. Therefore, even a pound of weight loss or a pound of muscle gain is the reason to reward yourself.”真正的变化需要几周的时间才能看到。因此,即使是减掉一磅体重或增加一磅肌肉,也是奖励自己的理由。可知,本句承接上文继续说明如何奖励自己。 C. Go out with friends or buy a pair of jeans. "和朋友出去玩或者买一条牛仔裤"符合语境,故选C。

72.
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When a tornado(龙卷风) touched down in a small town nearby, many families were left
completed ruined. Afterward all the local newspapers carried many
human-interest stories featuring some of the families who suffered the hardest.
One Sunday, a
particular picture especially touched me. A young woman stood in front of an
entirely shattered(破碎的) mobile home, a
depressed expression on her face. A young boy, seven or eight years old, stood
at her side, eyes downward. Clutching(紧握) at her skirt
was a tiny girl who stared into the camera, eyes wide with confusion and fear.
The article that went
with the picture gave the clothing sizes of each family member. With growing
interest, I noticed that their sizes closely matched ours. This would be a good
opportunity to teach my children to help those less fortunate than themselves.
I stuck the picture of the young family on our refrigerator, explaining their
difficulty to my seven-year-old twins, Brad and Brett, and to three-year-old
Meghan.
"These poor
people now have nothing," I said. "We'll share what we have with
them. I brought three large boxes down from the room upstairs and placed them
on the living room floor. Meghan watched seriously, as the boys and I filled
one of the boxes with canned goods and foods.
While I sorted through
our clothes, I encouraged the boys to go through their toys and donate some of
their less favorite things. Meghan watched quietly as the boys piled up old
toys and games.
Meghan walked up with
Lucy, her worn, much-loved rag doll hugged tightly to her chest. She came to the
box that held the toys, pressed her round little face into Lucy's flat,
painted-on-face, gave her a final kiss, then laid her gently on top of the
other toys.
"Oh, Honey,"
I said." You don't have to give Lucy. You love her so much."
Meghan nodded seriously,
eyes filled with held-back tears. "Lucy makes me happy, Mommy. Maybe she'll
make that other little girl happy, too."
Paragraph.
1:
The boys had watched, open-mouthed,
as their baby sister placed her favorite doll in the box.
Paragraph.
2:
I looked my children
for a long moment.
The boys had watched, open-mouthed, as their baby sister placed her favorite doll in the box. Without a word, Brad rose and went to his room. He came back carrying one of his favorite action figures. He hesitated briefly, clutching the toy, then looked over at Meghan and placed it in the box next to Lucy. A slow smile spread across Brett's face. Then he jumped up, eyes twinkling as he ran to fetch some of his prized Matchbox cars. Astonished, I realized that the boys had also recognized what little Meghan's gesture meant.
I looked at my children for a long moment. Swallowing back tears, I pulled all three of them into my arms. Inspired by my little ones, I removed my old jacket from the box of clothes. I replaced it with the new hunter green jacket that I had found on sale last week. I hoped the young woman in the picture would love it as much as I did. It's easy to give what we don't want any more, but harder to let go of things we cherish. However, the true spirit of giving is to give with your heart.
Then he jumped up, eyes twinkling as he ran to fetch some of his prized Matchbox cars. Astonished, I realized that the boys had also recognized what little Meghan's gesture meant. I replaced it with the new hunter green jacket that I had found on sale last week. I hoped the young woman in the picture would love it as much as I did. It's easy to give what we don't want any more, but harder to let go of things we cherish. However, the true spirit of giving is to give with your heart.

A.Worried and exhausted. B.Surprised and curious.

34.Which of the following did the author do in his bike club
A.He repaired the used bikes. B.He taught biking skills.
C.He took part in races. D.He gave out lots of flyers.
35.What would be the best title for the text
A.Why I Love Biking B.How I Formed a Bike Club
C.Why I Compete in Bike Races D.How I Improved My Biking Skills
