My first ever movie is being shown in Mrs. Yang's coffee shop. I had always dreamed about showing my video to my neighborhood. I bet you can't imagine how I got this chance to play my movie there. The story begins on an unusual afternoon two weeks ago:
"Cut, cut, cut!" I shouted, one hand holding the phone, the other grabbing the leash(牵狗的皮带). I complained this was not how I pictured the big chase scene of my movie playing out. What kind of Hollywood star dog wears a leash It was Dad's one rule, though. Because Chewy was only a puppy, I had to keep him on the leash whenever we filmed outside. If I followed that rule, I could use Dad's old cell phone to shoot my movie.
I decided to try again. I held on to his leash, hit the big red record button on the phone's screen, and yelled, "Action!" With the leash on, though, he didn't exactly appear to be in any real hurry to catch anyone. The only way to make this look real would be to take off the leash. But that would break the promise made with Dad.
Eventually, I released the leash, put Chewy down on his mark and hit record. But before I could shout "action," Chewy's ears popped up. He turned to the sound of footsteps walking past our driveway. It was Mrs. Yang, our next-door neighbor. She was Chewy's favorite, probably because she loved to give him treats. He greeted Mrs. Yang with a bark and playfully jumped in circles around her.
"You must smell the biscuits I just bought for you," she said to him. That's when Chewy noticed her grocery bag. He grabbed it and tore it with his mouth. I watched in horror as her groceries spilled all over the sidewalk.
I wanted to apologize. I wanted to help her pick up her things. But the moment I realized that Dad would find out I had taken Chewy's leash off, I hesitated. In a panic, I grabbed Chewy and ran inside the house. All afternoon, I replayed that embarrassing scene in my head.

We have all heard the expression: “Remember to stop and smell the roses.” But, how often do we really take time out of our busy fast-paced lives to notice the world around us I have reflected back on one situation many times since it happened and have learned several powerful lessons from it.
I’m as guilty as anyone of ignoring the world around in this manner, especially when I am driving on California’s overcrowded streets. A short time ago, however, I witnessed an event that showed me how being wrapped up in my own little world has kept me from being fully aware of the bigger world picture around me.
I was driving to a business appointment and, as usual, I was planning in my mind what I was going to say. I came to a very busy crossroads where the stoplight had just turned red. “All right,” I thought to myself, “I can beat the next light if I race ahead of the pack. ”My mind and car were in auto pilot, ready to go when suddenly my absent-minded state was broken by an unforgettable sight.
A young couple, both blind, was walking arm-in-arm across this busy crossroads with cars whizzing by in every direction. The woman was holding something tightly in her hands that sling to her chest, obviously carrying a child. Both of them had a white walking stick extended, searching for clues to direct them across the crossroads.
Initially I was moved. They were overcoming what I felt was one of the most feared handicaps — blindness. “Wouldn’t it be terrible to be blind ” I thought. Without realizing the danger they were in, they were walking right the path of oncoming cars. I was frightened for them because I didn’t know if the other drivers understood what was happening.
However, as I watched from the front line of traffic, I saw a miracle unfold before my eyes.

Niall was a 10-year-old boy who enjoyed the outdoors. He was fond of parks and nature trails and was saving up for a new bike he could use for his outdoor adventures.
One day after school, Niall checked the refrigerator for some leftovers. He was very hungry after spending the early afternoon playing football with his friends.
He noticed his mom Linda’s to-do list stuck on the refrigerator door. “Prepare dinner, wash the dishes, mow the lawn (修剪草坪), water the plants,do the laundry, clean the house...” Niall read the list. He realized his mom would only be able to go to bed at one o’clock in the morning if she wanted to accomplish everything. And she had to wake up at five to prepare breakfast for both of them before school and work.
“Oh, Mom,’’ Niall sighed. He was sad that his mother had to work hard because she was raising him as a single mother. Without hesitation, he quickly finished his meal and decided to help with the housework on his mom’s list in two hours before she came home.
Niall first cleaned the floor and did the laundry. Then he went to his mom’s room to put the folded clothes in the closet, where he saw a beautiful card. It was his mother’s bucket list. Niall found her top wish was to fly to a white sand beach alone. The boy smiled. He knew how much she loved going to the beach and how much she had devoted to the family.
Inspired, Niall decided to use the money he had saved to buy a plane ticket for his mom. He could ask his grandma to teach him how to book a flight. He imagined how happy his mom would be when he handed her that ticket.
Smiling, Niall quickly placed the clothes inside the closet. There were still many other chores — like mowing the lawn — that needed to be done.

Pay It Forward
Ryan, whose father died of illness early, was a senior high student now. He and his mom were on their own, living in a sparsely furnished apartment. Mom lost her job because of the economic crisis and they barely got by (勉强度日).
As usual, Ryan walked into the restaurant where his mother once worked as a cashier in 2010 and queued up to pay for the lunch.
“Two forty,” Sonia, the cashier said.
“Could you charge it to my account, please My name is Ryan Harris.”
Sonia looked through the record chart, announcing that Ryan didn’t have any credits (积分) left, and suggested he pay cash. Reaching his hand into his pocket, Ryan only took out several cents, which couldn’t cover the lunch. He smiled weakly, turned away and took a seat in the restaurant for a rest. He felt so hungry that his eyes fell on the sandwiches people around were enjoying. Before long, unexpectedly, Sonia walked up to him, bringing a lunch and putting it on his desk. Surprise deprived him of all power of speech. Sonia explained, “I paid for it. And I bought you some credits to last you through the month. I know what it’s like to go without lunch.”
Soon Ryan learned the truth. Sonia went to the same senior high in 2010 like him and used to have lunch in the same restaurant every day. One day, she stayed in line, waiting to buy her lunch, but was told that she didn’t have enough credits. So she left, empty-handed. Just as she thought she would go hungry, an amazing cashier brought her lunch and a card reading “Pay it forward and help someone else in need”.
Sonia told Ryan the amazing cashier changed her life forever, and she was the reason why Sonia decided to start working here, meanwhile handing Ryan the card. Ryan promised that he would pay the money back to her one day. But Sonia insisted, “We are human. And we have to be nice to each other. You needn’t pay me back; you pay it forward!” Ryan could not believe his good fortune, enjoyed the lunch and went to school.

【答案】When Dad arrived home that evening. I handed him his cell phone, lowering my head. Dad sensed there was something wrong and asked how my film day was in a soft voice. I shook my head. Overwhelmed by feelings of guilt, I told him everything that had happened. Dad was happy to be told the truth and generously gave me more time to figure out how to stick to our rule and still make a good movie. As for Mrs. Yang, I admitted that I owed her an apology, so Dad suggested that I show my regret to her.
Dad stood on the sidewalk holding Chewy while I walked up to Mrs. Yang’s front door. I knocked at the door with my heart hammering in my chest. Thankfully, she accepted my apology. When hearing I was making a movie and my dream was to show it to everyone I knew, she was quite interested and kindly offered me her coffee shop nearby to show it to the neighborhood, which was beyond my wildest dream. I jumped with delight and hugged her tightly. That’s how I got the chance to play my movie. I owe this to honesty.

【答案】Possible version:
Now this young man started to clean his mother’s hand gently. For the first time, he noticed his mother’s hands were rough with cuts and calluses. Some of the cuts were so deep that she shivered with pain when they were cleaned. It was not until that moment that the young man started to understand the sacrifice his mother had made to ensure he could get a good education. Stroking his mother’s hands with both affection and guilt, he felt a lump in his throat, tears of admiration and sorrow streaming down his face.
The following day he went to the director’s office again. His face was calm, and the excitement and pride in his eyes were replaced by sincerity and gratitude. “Thank you for this valuable lesson,” said the young man with tears glittering in his eyes. Then he continued to tell the manager that he was regretful about being an insensitive son who had been obsessed with grades and career opportunities, neglecting how his mother had suffered all these years. The manager listened attentively and finally said with a smile curving his lips, “I’m glad you’ve gained the power of appreciation, which is an essential quality in a manager. You are hired. ”

【答案】Every car in every direction did the same thing. They stopped at the same time. Everything seemed to freeze. Amazed, I looked at the cars around me, and noticed that everyone’s attention was fixed on the blind couple while no one got mad and none was shouting and yelling. They just waited patiently, without sounding the horn, afraid of scaring the couple. It appeared that all the drivers understood what the couple went through.
Never noticing something different, the couple adjusted their route as they followed the coaching. Trusting their white walking stick, they finally made it. As they went across the road, one thing struck me — they were still arm-in-arm. I was surprised at the emotionless expressions on their faces and judged that they had no idea what was really going on around them. Yet I immediately sensed the sights of relief of all the other drivers at that busy crossroads. So, taking a moment to see what is going on around you right now may award you something wonderful.
