As Melanie drove through St. Petersburg, the laughter and chatter from the four young girls inside her car quickly gave way to screams. As they came near a crossroad, another car hit into them, causing their black car sailing into the yard of a nearby house, coming to a stop only when it crashed into a tree.
As smoke got out from the other car, a witness shouted, “It’s about to explode! Get our!” But the hit had caved (凹陷) in Melanie’s driver’s side door, making it hard to open. Shockingly but luckily, she got away. Along with two of her friends freeing themselves, she ran for her life.
But halfway down the street, she realized that her best friend, Lorna, wasn’t with them. Melanie ran back and found Lorna falling down in the back seat. “She wasn’t moving,” Melanie told Inside Edition. Wheat is a main source of food for people across the planet, accounting for a fifth of the calories consumed globally. But as a result of climate change, scientists believe most parts of the world where the crop is grown will be hit by water shortages by the end of the century. And the US could be among the countries worst affected, the authors of the research published in the journal Science Advances told Newsweek.
If climate change isn't dealt with, by the year 2100, 60 percent of areas that grow wheat will be hit by water scarcity — up from the current level of 15 percent, according to the international team of scientists.
Co-authors Miroslav Trnka and Song Feng told Newsweek that in their previous research, they had shown climate change may cause soil to become less moist (湿润的) across most mainland US states, including those where wheat is grown. As a result, the US could be “one of the top most affected wheat producers” in terms of the increase in areas affected by severe droughts, they said in a joint statement.
Worryingly, existing research has predicted a 4.0 to 6.5 percent drop in global wheat production per 1 degree Celsius of warming if climate change isn't eased. And it's unlikely that wheat can be replaced if water becomes scarce, as it's not as thirsty as other crops and can do without water for a relatively long period of time.
“If multiple regions are affected by drought at the same time, it might be difficult to meet the demand even if the trade routes stay open and are not restricted by governmental measures,” warned Feng. However, he said, “Studies show that if we continuously improve the sustainability and technologies in the coming decades and allow for international trade, we may overcome the negative impacts of climate change.”
28.How will climate change hurt wheat production
A.By lowering the temperature. B.By reducing the water supply.
C.By polluting the soil. D.By flooding the field.
29.What can we learn from Paragraph 3
A.Wheat production caused droughts in most mainland US states.
B.The United States is the biggest wheat producer in the world.
C.The United States will suffer a lot from climate change.
D.Climate change is closely watched by American scientists.
30.Why is wheat unlikely to be replaced by other crops in a drought
A.It is the primary food for most countries. B.It is not influenced by global warming.
C.It is widely grown in most countries. D.It needs less water than other crops.
31.What's Feng's attitude towards the wheat production in the coming decades
A.Negative. B.Objective.
C.Ambiguous. D.Unconcerned.
D
One of Britain' s most outstanding scientists says the growth in the use of electronic tablets and smart phones is causing people to spend so much time indoors that they need to take regular vitamin D supplements to make up for the lack of sunlight they receive naturally.
Geneticist Steve Jones said he himself was a follower to the cause and urged others to follow. “I never thought I would be a person who would take vitamin supplements;I always thought it was absolute nonsense. But now I take vitamin D every day. Today, because I knew the sun wasn't going to shine, I took an extra one,” he said.
Exposure to the sun is the major source of vitamin D.However, people are spending less and less time outdoors in many areas. The problem is particularly serious in Scotland. "The Scots are the whitest people in the world because their entire body systems are crying out for vitamin D," he said, adding that life expectancy in Scotland is two years shorter than in England or Wales. Multiple sclerosis (多发性硬化症), a medical condition which is often seen in northern Europe, is also higher in Scotland than in England.
Vitamin D helps with the absorption of Ca, which helps keep bones strong. And Jones said the fact that rickets (佝偻病) was making a comeback in Britain after nearly 50 years was another sign of how changing behavior patterns were bringing physical harm.
Jones admitted that concerns over the damaging effects on skin of long-time exposure to the sun were reasonable, but said sunlight was healthy and necessary for the human body, and could help in lowering blood pressure. "If you lie on the beach for an hour, you will drop your blood pressure by about 10 points, because it relaxes your blood vessels (血管). So, get out in the sun while we still can," he said.
32.How are people affected by the rise of technology according to the text
A.They are more sensitive to sunlight B.They take more vitamin D supplements.
C.They get less vitamin D than before. D.They become addicted to electronic games.
33.What’s Jones’ attitude towards taking vitamin D supplements now
A.Skeptical. B.Cautious.
C.Worried. D.Supportive.
34.Why are the Scots the whitest people in the world
A.Because they are in great need of sunlight. B.Because their blood pressure is very low.
C.Because they enjoy a short period of sunshine. D.Because they are easy to get multiple sclerosis.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.Get out and gain more Vitamin D B.Keep away from tablets and phones
C.Pay attention to the importance of sunlight D.Take vitamin D supplements to keep healthy

The coin disappeared for her too. “Do it again,” she said angrily, and I did. My hands were 49 , but when I looked up, everything had 50 . I would remember the look on her face — the look of wide-eyed, open-mouthed 51 .
I kept seeing my teacher's face — the strict look 52 into great wonder and joy all at once. The kids' too. They had been 53 immediately from an indifferent(冷漠的)pack of creatures into real people. When the 54 of worry or pain had gone, the faces that shone without it were amazing.

第II卷(非选择题55分)
第二节(共10小题; 每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的内容(1个单词)或括号内单词的正确形式,并将答案转写到答题卡上。
Breaking habits is hard. This is largely because we are constantly exposed to stimuli (刺激物), 56 take control of the reward-based learning system in our brains designed initially for 57 (survive). Reward-based learning, to put it 58 (simple), involves a trigger (诱因), followed by a behavior and a reward. These three components (trigger, behavior and reward) show up every time we do what we desire to do. And then we gradually have the habits.
So why can’t we just control ourselves and decide to replace bad habits with good ones 59 the fact that researchers show that the brain networks associated with self-control are the first to go “offline” when 60 (face) with triggers such as stress, the doctrine (学说) of self-control 61 (know) for decades. When I was in medical school, I was taught to pass self-control speech on to my patients. “Need to lose weight Don’t eat junk food. Try to quit 62 (smoke) Stop it and use a nicotine replacement.”
When I started actually practicing medicine, however, I quickly learned that it is impractical in real life. Self-control theories have missed something 63 (critic): reward-based learning is based on rewards, not behaviors. How rewarding a behavior drives how likely we are 64 (repeat) that behavior in the future, and this is why self-control as 65 approach to breaking habits often fails.

第二节(满分25分)读后续写
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A month before my first marathon, one of my ankles was injured and this meant not running for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train. Yet, I was determined to go ahead.
The idea that I was “not athletic” stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against my own body and mind.
The night before my marathon, I had a nightmare that I couldn’t even cross the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous. My wife still encouraged me to prove something to myself. She is my biggest fan, who never minded the alarm clock at 4 a.m. or questioned my expenses on running.
It was winter but people from all walks of life crowed along the course, enjoying the marathon in their own ways. Without a cloud in the sky, the light took on a magical color. Shortly after embarking on the journey, my shoelaces became untied, so I stopped to readjust. Not the start I wanted!
At mile 3, I passed a sign: “GO FOR IT, RUNNERS!”
By Mile 17, I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly, for which I had prepared myself well in advance. Despite the pain, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.
By mile 21, I was starving! The only thing I could do to strengthen my body was to take a few sips of water. I realized that I was left behind, but it didn’t matter a bit to me, because I kept telling myself that it was not a competition with other participants, but a test of will.
As I approached mile23, I couldn’t feel my feet anymore, feeling like floating in the air. However, what happened next second changed this ordinary day—immediately a vehicle lost its control and dived into the canal beside the course! The crowds just rushed to the bank and saw a woman behind the wheel in the sinking car.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I knew that there was no time to waste.

66.Dear students:
As we all know, such scientists as Tu Youyou have made great cintributions to our country. They set a good example to us.And we should learn from them.
Tu Youyou, awarded the Nobel Medicine Prize, along with her research team, made the discovery of artemisinin, which is a crucial new treatment for malaria, thus greatly improving the health of millions of people.Besides, she shows many good qualities. For example, she is committed and patient. Even in the face of failure, she never loses hope and gives up.All these contribute to her success.
In conclusion, she is an admirable scientist and I hope she can inspire us to set big goals and achieve a lot some day like her.
67. I knew that there was no time to waste. But I should go to save the woman first. I jumped into the canal, enduring a sharp pain in my ankle. I swam up to the window and confirmed that the woman was unconscious. By then, the car was close to being fully submerged. I climbed inside to free her. I lifted her out of her seat and pulled her through the driver’s side window. Just as the car’s entire front was underwater, I saved the woman to the shore. Fortunately, she was still alive.
I was one of the final runners to finish, only with my wife waiting behind the line. But I finished! And I got a medal. I felt tired but happy. In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had. More importantly, I am the winner in my life, because my kindness saved a person’s life. Making a firm decision, moving forward, free of shame and worldly labels, I can now call myself a “marathon winner”.

The reason behind is that they might have had night ma res or haven’t had a sound sleep. One of my patients named Tom said that he used to be a great dreamer, but suddenly he stopped having dreams. I asked him what happened. It turned out that his brother died by heart attack and later he dreamt about it once. He felt so sad. Generally, when there was some bad event and the dream about it was too terrible. People prefer not to dream about it. As long as you dream even the dream is frightening, your mind is working on it. My personal opinion about what dreams do is that they help us deal with our problems. We see certain events take place in dreams. When a person is having dreams, he or she can actually have a better sleep. Because dreaming is another form of brain functioning. Also, dreams can prevent people from some diseases and help with daily problems. So, have a good dream and enjoy it.
