Many people are involved (卷入)in car accidents every year in the United States. Here are things you should do if you are one of these unlucky people.
The most important thing is to stay calm (保持镇静). Call the police and report the accident. If you are involved in a car accident, try to get the driver's license plate (车牌). If you're hurt, call 911 or ask someone else to do so. If you can move, check on the other people in your car. If your car is safe to drive, pull it to the side of the road.
It is important to call the police so that the police can write a police report. Most insurance companies (保险公司) won't pay for the accident if there isn't a police report.
Be ready to give your right place when you call so that the police can find you easily.
While you are waiting for the police to arrive, take notes of what happened. Write down all the information about the cars or bikes. Write down the names of everyone in the accident. If possible, take pictures of the scene(现场) of the accident.
When the police arrive, tell them what happened and give them all the information you get about the driver of the other car or the cyclists (骑自行车的人).
( )29.What does the underlined word "it" refer to
A. The phone. B. The driver. C. The license plate. D. The car.
( )30.Why is a police report important
A. Because most insurance companies won't pay without it.
B. Because you can receive more help from the police with it.
C. Because you need to give more money to the police without it.
D. Because you can get more money from insurance companies with it.
( )31.What's the purpose of the passage
A. To tell us how to drive in the United States.
B. To tell us what to do when an accident happens.
C. To tell us why we should always drive carefully.
D. To tell us about the best time to call the police.

How can you protect yourself if there's an earthquake at school What should you do if you get caught in a stampede(蜂拥) March 30 this year provides you with a good chance to learn about safety.
This day is called the Safety Education Day. The theme of the day this year is to give students more knowledge about safety and make sure their lives safe.
A survey done by the China Youth and Children Research Center shows that school accidents kill more elementary and middle school students than anything else. The main accidents come from stampedes, earthquakes, fires and sports injuries(伤害).
What can we do to keep ourselves safe Staying calm is the first and most important rule when facing accidents. But different accidents have different self-protection advice.
A stampede is possible anywhere. The larger a human crowd gets, the more likely stampedes become. When students around you begin to push, stand still and try to hold onto something, or stay in a corner until the crowd leaves. If you fall down in a moving crowd, cover your head with both hands. Lean to one side, curl up your body and bend your legs.
Earthquakes are common natural disasters(灾难). When you feel the ground shake, hide under a table and stay away from windows and heavy furniture. Do not jump out of high buildings. If you are outdoors, don't stay near buildings, trees or power lines.
When there's a fire, follow the teachers' instructions, leave the classroom quickly and use a piece of cloth to cover your mouth and nose so that you don't breathe in smoke.

To be safe in your everyday life needs knowledge. If you remember the following information your life will be much safer. Always notice the environment (环境) around you. You shouldn't walk alone outside. When you are in public places (公共场所), make sure where the Emergency Exits (紧急出口) are. If anything dangerous happens, you can find them easily.
Your bag should be carried towards the front of your body instead of putting it on your back. When a bus is filled with people, it's easy enough for a thief to take away the things in the bag on your back.
If you are followed by someone you don't know, cross the street and go to the other way to let the person understand that you know he or she is after you. Next, don't go home at once. You are safer in the street than you are alone in your home or in a lift (电梯).
If you have to take a bus to a place far away, try to get to the stop a few minutes earlier before the bus leaves. This stops thieves from studying you. On the bus, don't sit alone. Sit behind the driver or with other people. Don't sleep.
