Today, we can get news from TV or the Internet, but how did ancient people get news
At the very beginning, information spread by word of mouth. People living in tribes(部落)got news from neighbors or travelers. Ancient Romans changed the way people knew about their communities. They posted a list of daily happenings at public squares in the cities. Ancient Chinese people did it in another way. The government had news sent to the officers in the whole country so people could know what was going on in the capital.
The fifteenth century saw the big progress in printing technology in the west. It brought a sudden rise of news business. Printers sold whatever people loved to read. In the sixteen century, the first real newspapers appeared. People started to form the habit of reading newspapers. They liked to share their opinions on newspapers. The invention of telegraph(电报)machines caused another big step in history. New stories were sent to the papers in minutes instead of weeks.
Now we get news in seconds from all over the world. We can become some kind of reporters by posting online what happens around us.

The London Marathon is a long-distance running event and has been held every year since 1981. At the first one, just 6,225 people completed the course, and since then it has been among the most important sporting events in the world. Each winner receives $500,000 in prize money. However, most marathon runners are not professional. Some of them run to raise money for charities.
One exciting part from this year’s race was the story of Ms Doggett. “It’s hard to think that just a few years ago we were sitting in a hospital room wondering if our mom would make it through her serious heart disease,” said Steven Doggett, her son, “but now, she’s running her first London Marathon for The British Heart Foundation.”
BBC newsreader Sophie Raworth was another runner of this year to inspire people, as she has crossed the finishing line in her seventh London Marathon. She prepared for this year’s marathon by running 150 miles across the Sahara Desert(撒哈拉沙漠). “It felt really tough; it was really hot; it felt as hot as the Sahara,” she told Gabby Logan on BBC Two. “I was 20 minutes slower but I’ve got my medal and that’s the most important.”

A university researcher in Beijing posted an open letter online, in which he mentioned that he had not spoken to his parents for 12 years. Because in his opinion, it is his parents that caused his mental(心理)problems.
It is possibly true that a straight-A student(学霸)is easier to get into problems caused by over control from their parents than an ordinary one.
Wang Meng was once a straight-A student(学霸)who graduated from Peking University. He didn’t have the basic ability of taking care of himself, though he was almost the best in all his subjects. While studying in university, he was often laughed at by his classmates and roommates. He says he has so little self-confidence that he cannot get along well with other people, and this is only part of his mental problem. According to his letter, his life has always been planned and decided by his parents. And they stick to what they consider best for him. Although his parents agree there are problems with their education, they still take pride in Wang’s wonderful grades.
Wang Meng’s story has drawn attention from the whole society to the problem of children’s development. Achieving a good grade is not the only purpose of life and it must not be regarded as the only way to evaluate(评价)the performance of the children. Their development and learning are expected to be connected with their interest and independence rather than over caring from their parents.

We can share not only our pocket money but also our personal feeling. For instance, we can share our positive altitude with those who are negative or upset. Why do many famous people try to learn Chinese well The first reason is that Chinese is the language which is spoken by the largest number of people in the world. The Amazon rainforest is home to millions of different kinds of animals, plants, and birds. Most of the world’s fresh water is here and the forest plants clean the Earth’s air every day.
Chico was born near the Amazon town, Brazil, in 1944 and started working when he was very young. Like the rest of his family, the boy got the money by taking a little rubber(橡胶) from the trees in the forest. (The trees are not hurt when the rubber is taken.) The forest and its people lived together comfortably and peacefully.
But some people think too much about themselves and never think about the future. In 1980, the forest was burned to build roads, houses and factories. Chico was angry; he wanted to save the forest! He talked to the government workers, but they didn’t listen to him. They were still clearing the rain forests to make quick, easy money. “Many voices are stronger than one,” he thought, so Chico held group meetings. He discovered that hundreds of people agreed with him. His hope grew. More people came together to try to stop the work of the forest cleaners. Large areas of the forest were saved. Later he traveled to many other countries for international help. People soon became very much interested in this brave Brazilian. In the next few years Chico’s name became famous all over the world. The government of Brazil started making plans to protect large areas of the Amazon rainforest.
But as Chico’s dreams started coming true, someone stopped him in the only possible way. The famous forest fighter was killed right outside his home on December 22, 1988. Chico’s life was cut short, but his brave new ideas continued in other people. One man changed the world’s ideas. After his death, people around the world sent money to help Chico’s work.
