A
When asked to point out one or two things that are the most important to themselves, many put friends ahead of homes, jobs, clothes and cars.
A true friendship carries a long history of experience that determines who we are and keeps us connected. It is a treasure we should protect. Unfortunately, the better friends you are, the more probably you'll have disagreements. And the result can be what you don’t want, an end to the relationship.
The good news is that most troubled friendships can be mended. First, don't let your pride get in your way. Most of us can forgive each other when differences are brought out in the open. Second, apologize when you’re wrong — even if you've been wronged. Over the course of a friendship, even the best people make mistakes. Sometimes, it may be best if the wronged person takes the lead and apologizes. When you apologize, give your friend a chance to admit that he has been wrong. Third, see things from your friend's point of view. And finally, accept that friendships change as our needs and lifestyles change. Making friends can sometimes seem easy. The hard part is keeping the connections strong during the natural ups and downs that have an effect on all relationships. My suggestion: consider the friendship an honor and a gift, and worth the effort to treasure and nurture (培养).
1. What would be the best title for the text
A. Easy Ways to Make Friends B. Ups and Downs is Friendship

A. who has been mistaken for another
B. who has been blamed unfairly
C. who has treated friends badly
D. who has admitted his mistakes
3. What should we do if we follow the author's second suggestion
A. Stick to our own point of view.
B. Avoid making mistakes.
C. Make an apology first.
D. Change our lifestyles.
How to Mend a Troubled Friendship(如何修复一段陷入困境的友谊)高度概括了主题,适合做标题。
根据上文“Second, apologize when you’re wrong — even if you’ve been wronged. (第二,当你做错了的时候要道歉——即使你被冤枉了)”以及下文“When you apologize, give your friend a chance to admit that he has been wrong.(当你道歉的时候,给对方一个机会去承认他自己的错误)”可推知,划线词句“Sometimes, it may be best if the wronged person takes the lead and apologizes.(有时候,让wronged person带头道歉可能是最好的)”中带头道歉的wronged person指的是被冤枉的人,即被不公正责备的人。
由第三段第四句中的“Second, apologize when you’re wrong — even if you’ve been wronged. (第二,当你做错了的时候要道歉——即使你被冤枉了。)”及第六句“Sometimes,it may be best if the wronged person takes the lead and apologises. .(有时候,让wronged person带头道歉可能是最好的)”可知,遵循作者的第二个建议,我们应该先道歉。故选C项。

Here are some kids who had great ideas that they turned into inventions. We call these kids “brain children”.
Six year old Suzanna Goodin, tired of cleaning the cat food spoon, came up with the idea of a spoon shaped cracker that can be eaten. She won a grand prize for her invention in the Weekly Reader National Invention Contest.
Eight year old Theresa Thompson and her 9 year old sister Mary were the youngest sisters to receive a US patent. They invented a solar tent for a science fair project in 1960. They called the device a Wigwarm.
At age 9 Margaret Knight began working in a cotton mill, where she saw a steel tipped shuttle (梭子) fly out and hit a nearby worker. As a result, Margaret made her first invention: a shuttle restraining device. She went on to invent the machine that makes the square bottom paper bags we still use for shopping today. That machine was patented in 1871.
Eleven year old Jeanie Low received a patent on March 10, 1992, for inventing the Kiddie Stool(凳子) — a fold up stool that fits under the sink so kids can unfold it, stand on it, and reach the sink on their own!
Becky Schroeder began her patenting career when she was 14 years old. She put phosphorescent_paint on paper under her writing paper so that she could write in the dark. This invention was later used in all sorts of ways. Doctors use it in hospitals to read patients’ charts at night without waking them, and astronauts use it when their electrical systems are turned down for recharging.
Fourteen year old Pamela Sica invented a push button device that raises the floor of a car so that goods can be raised and easily removed. Her invention won a grand prize for her age group in the Weekly Reader National Invention Contest. She wanted to patent her invention but found that it was too expensive.
Eight year old Chelsea Lannon received a patent in 1994 for the “pocket diaper (尿布)”, a diaper that has a pocket that holds things. She got her idea while helping her mother with her baby brother — while she was still in kindergarten!
4. Which inventions won a prize in the Weekly Reader National Invention Contest
A. The spoon shaped cracker and the shuttle restraining device.
B. The shuttle restraining device and the Kiddie Stool.
C. The Kiddie Stool and the pocket diaper.
D. The spoon shaped cracker and the device that raises the floor of a car.
5. What can we know from the passage
A. Theresa Thompson was the youngest child to make an invention.
B. A Wigwarm can be used to make paper bags.

The old man put on his spectacles and began to read.
They will be on the night shift---from midnight to 6 a. m. ---next week.
The type of meter is called multi-meter, which is used to measure electricity.
C
Benjamin West, the father of American painting, showed his talent for art when he was only six years of age. But he did not know about brushes before a visitor told him he needed one. In those days, a brush was made from camel’s hair. There were no camels nearby. Benjamin decided that cat hair would work instead. He cut some fur from the family cat to make a brush.
The brush did not last long. Soon Benjamin needed more fur. Before long, the cat began to look ragged(蓬乱). His father said that the cat must be sick. Benjamin was forced to admit what he had been doing.
The cat’s lot was about to improve. That year, one of Benjamin’s cousins, Mr. Pennington, came to visit. He was impressed with Benjamin’s drawings. When he went home, he sent Benjamin a box of paint and some brushes. He also sent six engravings(版画) by an artist. These were the first pictures and first real paint and brushes Benjamin had ever seen. In 1747, when Benjamin was nine years old, Mr. Pennington returned for another visit. He was amazed at what Benjamin had done with his gift. He asked Benjamin’s parents if he might take the boy to Philadelphia for a visit.
In the city, Mr. Pennington gave Benjamin materials for creating oil paintings. The boy began a landscape(风景) painting. William Williams, a well-known painter, came to see him work. Williams was impressed with Benjamin and gave him two classic books on painting to take home. The books were long and dull. Benjamin could read only a little, having been a poor student. But he later said,"Those two books were my companions by day, and under my pillow at night."While it is likely that he understood very little of the books, they were his introduction to classical paintings. The nine-year-old boy decided then that he would be an artist.
8. What is the text mainly about
A. Benjamin’s visit to Philadelphia.
B. Williams’ influence on Benjamin.
C. The beginning of Benjamin’s life as an artist.
D. The friendship between Benjamin and Pennington.
9. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 3 suggest
A. The cat would be closely watched.
B. The cat would get some medical care.
C. Benjamin would leave his home shortly.
D. Benjamin would have real brushes soon.
10. What did Pennington do to help Benjamin develop his talent
A. He took him to see painting exhibitions.
B. He provided him with painting materials.
C. He sent him to a school in Philadelphia.
D. He taught him how to make engravings.
11. Williams’ two books helped Benjamin to _____________.
A. master the use of paints
B. appreciate landscape paintings
C. get to know other painters
D. make up his mind to be a painter
C 9. D 10. B 11. D
Pennington gave Benjamin materials for creating oil paintings”,
D细节理解题,根据最后一段“While it is likely that he understood very little of the books, they were his introduction to classical paintings. The nine-year-old boy decided then that he would be an artist, 可知:这两本书帮助Benjamin坚定了自己成为一名画家的决心,故选D.
【名师点睛】
本文后两个小题考查了细节题。在完成细节题时,要特别注意排除干扰项。如小题23中的D项“He taught him how to make engravings”属于“偷梁换柱”类干扰项,根据第三段第五句“He also sent six engravings by an artist”可知“这些版画是Pennington送给Benjamin的”,并非是Pennington教Benjamin如何画版画,说明D项明显错误。

Some 30, 000 years ago, artists who lived in caves in Europe painted pictures of the animals around them. The paintings were highly realistic. Some even showed movement. The artwork is considered the oldest group of human cave drawings that have ever been discovered. The drawings were created tens of thousands of years ago before human history was written. They were preserved because the cave was closed off for more or less 23,000 years.
Fast forward to December 18, 1994, a group of French cave scientists were exploring caves in southern France. Jean-Marie Chauvet, who led the group then, described the process of discovering the cave paintings.“At that time I was in the front, Eliette just walked behind me, Christian behind.Eliette said she saw two marks made with red ochre and she said, ‘They came here.’ And at this very moment everything began. The drawings and everything were linked to the parietal art. That is where it started.” Cave art expert Jean Clottes reviewed the paintings.“I was amazed at the number of paintings there and their quality.”
The Chauvet Cave has been named after the explorer who first entered it. However, its environment and drawings are too fragile to be visited by human beings. So the cave is closed, and only people there for scientific purposes can go inside and see the artwork.
However, French authorities asked experts to create an exact copy of the cave, called the Pont d’Arc Cavern. The copy cost more than 59 million dollars to build.Pascal Terrasse is the president of the cave. He says everyone will be able to experience the thrill of looking at drawings made by the first humans in Europe. He says the place is magic because it is done so well.
12. Who is the first scientist to enter the cave
A. Christian. B. Eliette.
C. Jean Clottes. D. Jean-Marie Chauvet.
13. Which words can be used to describe the paintings in the cave
A. Elegant and abstract. B. Vivid and superior.
C. Complicated and creative. D. Delicate and colourful.
14. What can be learned about the Chauvet Cave
A. It was closed off for some 30, 000 years.
B. It’s the origin of modem parietal art.
C. The artwork is very easy to damage.
D. No one is given access to it now.
15. Why is the Pont d’Arc Cavern created
A. To show admiration for early artists in Europe.
B. To arouse visitors’ awareness of protecting art.
C. To offer visitors chances to enjoy the artwork.
D. To collect money for preserving the cave.
D 13. B 14. C 15. C

Over the past years, there have been frequent extreme weather and natural disasters, such as floods, droughts, snowstorms, earthquakes and so on. These have killed millions of people and destroyed countless homes.
Improper human activities contribute a lot to those disasters. We have cut down too many trees, badly polluted the environment, and wasted plenty of resources. What we have done is threatening human survival and development.
So it is high time that we protected our environment. We should plant more trees, reduce the use of vehicles and save resources like water and electricity. Everyone can make a difference to the environment. Only if we stop damaging the earth and do our best to protect it can we make the world a pleasant place to live in.

A Mother’s Love
My mom only had one eye. I hated her. She was such an embarrassment. She cooked for students and teachers to support the family.
There was one day during elementary school (小学) when my mom came over to say hello to me. I was so embarrassed.
How could she do this to me I ignored her, threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school one of my classmates said, “Your mom only has one eye!”
I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to just disappear. I confronted (面对) her that day and said “If you’re only going to make me a laughing stock, why don’t you just die ”
My mom did not respond. I didn’t even stop to think for a second about what I had said, because I was full of anger. I took no notice of her feelings at all.
I wanted to be out of that house, and have nothing to do with her. So I studied really hard, and got a chance to go abroad for further education.
Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. I had kids of my own. I was happy with my life, my kids and the comforts. Then one day, my mother came to visit me. She hadn’t seen me in years and she didn’t even meet her grandchildren.
When she stood by the door, my children laughed at her, and I shouted at her for coming over uninvited. I screamed at her, “How dare you come to my house and scare my children! GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!!!”
And to this, my mother quietly answered, “Oh, I’m so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address.” and she was soon out of sight.
One day, a letter regarding a school reunion (同学聚会) came to my house. So I lied to my wife that I was going on a business trip. After the reunion, I went to the old house just out of curiosity.
My neighbors said that she died. I did not shed a single tear. They handed me a letter that she had wanted me to have.
注意:
1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2.应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;

Paragraph 1:
My dearest son,
I think of you all the time and I’m sorry that
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
You see, when you were very little,
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
With all my love to you.
Your mother
Paragraph 1:
My dearest son,
I think of you all the time and I’m sorry that I came to your house and scared your children. I had never thought my visit would bring so much unhappiness to you. However, I was really so happy when I heard you were coming for the reunion. I missed you day and night. But I may not be able to even get out of bed to see you. I’m terribly sorry that I was a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up.
Paragraph 2:
You see, when you were very little, you got into a terrible accident, as a result of which you lost one of your precious eyes. As a mother, I couldn’t stand watching you having to grow up with just one eye. It was too much for you—a young soul to endure such a cruel fact and a possible future full of challenges. So I gave you mine. I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye.
With all my love to you.
Your mother
如:get into,as a result of,couldn’t stand doing, be proud of等高级词汇;非限制性定语从句as a result of which you lost one of your precious eyes,when引导的时间状语从句。
A
When asked to point out one or two things that are the most important to themselves, many put friends ahead of homes, jobs, clothes and cars.
C. How to Mend a Troubled Friendship D. How to Take the Lead in Making Friends

A. who has been mistaken for another
B. who has been blamed unfairly
C. who has treated friends badly
D. who has admitted his mistakes
3. What should we do if we follow the author's second suggestion
A. Stick to our own point of view.
B. Avoid making mistakes.
C. Make an apology first.
D. Change our lifestyles.

At age 9, Margaret Knight began working in a cotton mill, where she saw a steel tipped shuttle (梭子) fly out and hit a nearby worker.

In the city Mr.
D The friendship between Benjamin and Pennington.
9. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 3 suggest

A. It was closed off for some 30, 000 years.
B. It’s the origin of modem parietal art.
C. The artwork is very easy to damage.
D. No one is given access to it now.
15. Why is the Pont d’Arc Cavern created
A. To show admiration for early artists in Europe.

I confronted (面对) her that day and said, “If you’re only going to make me a laughing stock, why don’t you just die ”
