Alexsandra Ignjatovic in Serbia is the mother of three-year old Kan. She is also a preschool
teacher. At work, She takes care of dozens of boys and girls every day. But at home, she often felt
guilty. “I was always too stressed to take good care of my own son. With too much work, I could
never relax,” recalls Aleksandra.
Often feeling exhausted, stressed, and lacking in support, parents struggle to provide a nurturing
(养育的)environment for their children. Well, the Caring for the Caregiver package in Serbia has
helped parents like Aleksandra realize that they're not alone and that parenting is a learning process.
The Caring for the Caregiver package equips parents and caregivers with tools to manage stress,
focus on self-care, engage in conflict resolution, organize daily routines, and share parental
responsibilities. In Serbia, this new package is being tested with preschool teachers, visiting nurses
and social workers to support parents and their families.
Aleksandra and her husband Petrit are supported by the staff in the preschool their son attends.
The preschool staff uses Daily Routine Cards from the Caring for the Caregiver package to help this
couple to identify the challenges they are facing. A simple presentation of daily activities through
pictures on the cards helps parents to plan their daily routines and to carve out time for themselves.
"They asked me if I had any hobbies before I had my son. I told them I used to paint," says
Aleksandra. "With the help of the cards, I realize that if Kan's dad takes him out for an afternoon
walk, I could have half an hour to one hour to paint. And when they come back from their walk, we
can paint together.”
"The cards really benefit the couple and their relationship. She's more focused on playing with
her child. And with more patience, she is more satisfied with herself,”says Zorica Cmolic, who
worked with Aleksandra and Petrit.
24. What makes Aleksandra feel guilty at home
A. Having no energy to do parenting.
B. Making a series of mistakes at work.
C. Being too strict with her little son.
D. Failing to get along with many kids.
25. What is the Caring for the Caregiver package mainly intended to do
A. Test personal abilities of parents.
B. Support parents in various ways.
C. Reduce the burden of preschool teachers.

It’s no secret now that the more time we spend on social media, the more we feel dissatisfied
with ourselves. We tend to compare ourselves to influences and celebrities- so it’s easy to understand
how that can affect our confidence.
But, how often have you found yourself comparing your life to your friends Engaging with
social media shared by our friends can be more damaging than looking at content shared by
celebrities, new research has found.
The study looking at how social media affects body image found that any social media
engagement was significantly associated with lower “appearance satisfaction”. Additionally, it found
that engaging with content posted by people the participants knew was more than twice as damaging
as looking at content posted by strangers, including celebrities.
Viren Swami, Professor of Social Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University, believes this is
partly because we know it’s hard to attain the lives of celebrities or influences, but when we’re
comparing ourselves to our friends, it feels like we should- or could-live the way they do.
“One possible explanation is that people may consider a post showing appearance as being
much more attainable if it comes from someone they know, adding expectation or pressure on the
person engaging in the post, ” he said. “At the same time, people may be more critically engaged
with posts by the likes of models and celebrities, and therefore they think the images they share are
more unrealistic."
This is not just confined to body image though. We all have one area in our lives that
triggers(触发)us. Maybe you’ve been searching for a new job for months and you find yourself on
social media, envying your school friend who just landed their dream role. Maybe. . .
All this is to say the obvious: we only see part of people’s lives -and if it’s getting you down,
you’re probably comparing your insides to other people’s outsides. Everyone has their struggles and
life is indeed not perfect for anyone. So, put down your phone, get offline, be thankful and try to live
your own life.

New bio-plastics are being made in laboratories from straw, wood chips and food waste, with
researchers aiming to replace oil as the source of the world’s plastic.
The new approaches include genetically modifying bacteria to eat wood and produce useful
chemicals. But the bio-plastics are currently significantly more expensive to make than fossil
fuel-based plastics.
Land and seas around the world, from high mountains to deep oceans, have become polluted
with plastic, causing major public concern. The world has produced 8 billion tons of plastic since the
1950s and demand is still rising.
While some waste plastic is recycled, much of it is burnt to produce electricity, resulting in
carbon emissions that drive climate change. In contrast to plastic made from oil, plastics made from
plant-based materials only release the carbon the plants absorbed from the air as they grew.
Bio-plastics will also give more options for products that biodegrade (生物降解) in the environment,
although they can be made very long-lasting if required.
“Plastics are an incredible enhancement to our daily lives,” said Paul Mines, CEO of Biome
Technologies in the UK, which has spent 5,000 in the last five years on bio-plastics research. “But
we can’t go on using fossil fuel-based materials. About 6-7% of every barrel (桶) of oil is used to
make plastics.”

{#{QQABQQSEogiAQhAAAQgCUwHgCgEQkBECAIoOwAAEMAAAQAFABAA=}#}
“Using plant materials is practical,” said professor Simon, at the University of York. “Replacing
half of the nation’s plastic bottles could be done using just 3% of the sugar beet (甜菜) crop, 5% of
wheat straw or 2.5% of food waste,” he said.
Currently just a few thousand tons of bio-plastic are used in the UK each year, compared to
millions of tons of straditional plastic. Mines said this could rise to about 20,000 tons in the next five
years.
32. Why are high mountains and deep oceans mentioned in Paragraph 3
A. To show the widespread use of plastic.
B. To display the range of plastic pollution.
C. To present a reason of wide use of plastic.
D. To stress the increasing demand for plastic.
33. What is one advantage of bio-plastics over fossil fuel-based plastics
A. Producing electricity. B. Being eco-friendly.
C. Driving climate change. D. Biodegrading other plastic.
34. What can we learn from the figures in Paragraph 6
A. Producing bio-plastics is possibly achieved.
B. Making bio-plastics costs the climate change.
C. Recycling bio-plastics needs a small amount of plants.
D. Using plant materials to make bio-plastics is challenging.
35. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Plastics arc necessary in daily life.
B. Oil is the source of the world’s plastic.
C. Bio-plastic making is a promising industry.
D. Scientists are researching bio-plastic making.

On the first day of my senior high, one of my new teachers asked my entire class what our favorite
memory was. Some described amazing awards; others described winning a baseball game. My answer,
however, invited giggles and hesitant smiles. Why Because I felt the best when I first learned how to ride
my bike at thirteen. I didn’t mind my classmates’ stares and comments, because I knew there was more to
the story.
My elder sister and I shared a typical sisterly relationship: we couldn’t stand each other. I was an
annoyance to her. Any sort of conversation we had usually ended up fighting. Gradually, we started not to
care about each other any more; perhaps Keeping silent would be preferred. I was wrong. We soon fell
into a sad pattern. I avoided her, and she ignored me. Deep inside, it hurt. So it was how between us. She
was only a sister in name. I totally believed that we would forever be apart, two housemates without
conversation, two strangers without warmth.
I still remember the day I learned to ride a bike. I had received the bike that Christmas, which was
great, until I realized that I had no idea how to ride it. My mom had long abandoned any attempt to teach
me. I had proven to be a frustrating (令人沮丧的) student. I had no choice but to teach myself to learn, a
little bit each day. It was no different. I was coming to the end of my daily one-hour suffering. So
frustrated I was that I threw my bike aside and began to cry.

读后续写
I guess that was what my sister to come outside. At first, I was doubtful and annoyed because I figured that she would burst out laughing. However, she gently picked up my bike, saying in a firm tone, “I can teach you to ride.” I raised my head, tears rolling down my cheeks. But on thinking of our usual conversation, I quickly turned away my face ignoring whatever she said. The following hours saw my sister holding my bike steadily. She never once let me fall, patiently teaching me how to ride a bike. I could exactly feel my progress little by little.
“I made it,” I shouted with excitement.A wave of happiness sprang out of my heart. I turned around, smiling at my sister. “You’ve done a good job. I’m proud of you.” she shouted to me. Her encouraging voice made me feel warmer. It seemed that the forever silence between us was broken and the sadness pattern disappeared. That was the day I tasted what the real sisterly love would be like and that was the perfect harmony I had longed for. Since that day, we never avoided and ignored each other. I believed nothing could drive us apart.
