UN Chinese Language Day is celebrated yearly on April 20. The day was set up by the UN to make the
Chinese language widely used in this organization.
The first Chinese Language Day was celebrated in 2010 on the 12th of November. But
since 2011, the date has been the 20th of April. In the traditional Chinese calendar, Chinese
Guyu, the 6th of 24 solar terms(节气), usually begins around April 20. Guyu is important to
Chinese people. Each year Chinese will celebrate Guyu in memory of the person: Cangjie,
who created Chinese characters(汉字). So the date was moved to the 20th of April.
The Chinese Language Day for 2021 was especially to help more people learn about
Chinese characters based on symbols(象形文字). In the building of the UN in New York, there were three events
about three kinds of Chinese characters based on symbols. The three events were: a guided tour of the Liangzhu
Museum to know more about Liangzhu words, a language class on Dongba words, and a speech on the history of
Chinese characters. The three events were from April 19 to 21, 2021.
There are six official working languages in the UN and Chinese is one of them. However, in the early years,
Chinese was not commonly used in the work of the UN. The situation improved after the restoration (恢复) of the
rights of China in the UN in 1971. And in 1973, the General Assembly (联合国大会)included Chinese as a working
language. Then more and more UN offices and work members work with the Chinese language.

The opening ceremony(开幕式) of the Hangzhou Asian Games marked the richest
and most skillful use of AR(增强现实技术) in history.
“Technologies such as AR have allowed us to express more,” said Sha Xiaolan,
