72.Dear fellow students,
As is known to us, without electricity the society cannot run smoothly. But around us, electricity is often regrettably wasted, in contrast to which many places have been suffering severe power shortage since this summer. So it’s necessary for us to save electricity.
First and foremost,we should make it a habit to save electricity and practice it in our daily life. For example, when leaving the room, we should turn off the lights. Moreover, we should remind more people around us, such as our parents, close relatives and friends, of the importance of saving electricity.
Many hands make light work. Dear fellow students, let’s join in the power saving action, start from ourselves, and act from now on.
The student’s Union

Text10:
Good afternoon, listeners. This is Dennis Parker in the newsroom of Central 125, your favorite radio station for local news, weather and traffic reports. First up today, at a press conference this morning, Emma Stanbury, director of the Central Hospital, announced that they would be opening a new women and children’s unit to serve the city’s growing population. The existing hospital has served the city for 32 years and also as a teaching facility for doctors and nurses. According to Ms. Stanbury, the work on building the new unit will start next month and it will be ready to treat patients in around 18 months.
Later today, the city’s Century Bridge is due to reopen after six months of work to repair damage caused by last year’s floods. The reopening should help deal with many of the traffic problems in the city.
And now the weather and traffic news. Because of the heavy rain last night, traffic jams in the city are worse than usual today. Several main roads are blocked by flood water. Luckily, there have been no reports of injuries. However, the police are advising drivers to be careful until conditions get back to normal. No more heavy rain is expected, so there’s a good chance that things will improve soon. We’ll be back in an hour with a report on preparations for the city’s annual cultural festival, plus, of course, all the latest news. I’m Dennis Parker in the newsroom of Central 125.

Blue Grotto, Italy
Despite its name, it is actually not a grotto(洞穴)but a sea cave, about 60m long. What makes it one of the most beautiful caves in the world is the blue color, as its name suggests. When you enter inside, you can see it is filled with weird blue light. This color is formed by the unique combination of the rocks, the entrance, the clear water and the whole shape. In fact, you can’t identify where the source of the blue light is.
Son Doong Cave, Vietnam
This is known as the largest cave in the world, not because of its length—in fact, it is just about 5km long. But its size comes from its enormous passages and caves, reaching 200m in height. In addition, there is an underground river, making the cave even more impressive.
Marble Caves, Chile
Located far from any road, the caves are accessible only by boat. This is the most beautiful cave structure in the world, in which crystal clear water is literally lightened by dazzling(使目眩)blue ice walls. A magical, fabulous, unreal and almost unearthly sight! The caves are best seen from September to February and earlier in the morning when the sunlight streams inside.
Reed Flute Cave, China
Its name comes from the reeds beside its entrance that have been used for making flutes(长笛). It is not too long and not too deep-only about 500m in length. What makes this cave more special is the history. It has been known since ancient times. And when you enter inside, you can see a lot of inscriptions(碑文)dating back to medieval times, starting from the times of the Tang Dynasty (around 792 AD).

The famous Spanish painter Pablo Picasso once said, “I always do what I can’t do so that I can learn how to do it.” It strikes a chord with me because that’s exactly what I’ve done these years.
One of my earliest memories of doing before learning is of baking scones (烤饼) when I was about 10 years old. I wanted to bake them to surprise my mother when she returned home.
Before that I’d observed how my mother baked them many times. As I started to try, I didn’t know I shouldn’t handle the dough with my hands too much once I’d added the baking powder. However, I knew exactly how to roll out the dough and use a cookie cutter to cut the scones, because my mom had already taught me.
By the time my mom arrived home, the smell of freshly baked scones welcomed her into the kitchen. They were baked to golden brown perfection-flat, as a result of over handling the dough, but they tasted OK. My mom sweetly praised me for my attempt, rather than scolding me for the state of the kitchen, which was like a tornado had just blown!
Have my attempts always been successful I wish! Some of my kitchen disasters were of such proportions that even the dogs wanted nothing to do with them. My gardening failures didn’t live to see another season.
But my habit of doing before learning is still helpful. Whatever computer program or application I have to learn, I do so by simply starting to use it. I do, learn, and improve. So if you ask me whether I regret that I tend to do first and learn later, I’d say I don’t, because what I have discovered from those is the wisdom to know when it’s OK to do and then learn, and when it’s probably better to learn and then do!
28.What can we learn about the author’s first experience of baking scones
A.She practiced hard before actually trying.
B.She turned to her mom when necessary.
C.She wanted to perform better than her mom.
D.She managed to do it despite a little imperfection.
29.How did Mom respond to the author’s attempt
A.She made improvements to the scones.
B.She expressed her appreciation for the job.
C.She shared her first experience of baking.
D.She was surprised by the mess in the kitchen.
30.What does the author think of her practices of “doing before learning”
A.Most of them have ended up in failure.
B.They are just a barely usable method.
C.They contribute a lot to her self-improvement.
D.They only apply to the learning of specific skills.
31.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A.To stress the importance of keeping learning.
B.To show the benefits of doing before learning.
C.To encourage people to do something they can’t do.
D.To call on readers to change their way of learning.
D
Manufacturing (批量生产) is a one-way business. Raw materials go into a factory and finished products come out. Once those goods are sold, producers usually wash their hands of them. They normally don’t worry about how the products are disposed of (处理). Most are burnt or rot in landfill. In only 50 years the world’s consumption of raw materials has nearly increased to more than 100 billion tonnes according to the latest Circularity Gap Report from the World Economic Forum. Less than 9% of this is reused. Industry does talk about sustainability and recycling, but much of that is greenwashing intended to improve brand images.
Every car-making country wants gigafactories (超级工厂) that produce batteries for electric vehicles (EVS), which is profitable. Batteries contain valuable but expensive materials that are hard to get. Supply chains are long and complex. Recycling makes sense.
Most gigafactories are designed with recycling in mind from the start. The result is a circular (循环的) production process. The idea is that once batteries reach the ends of their lives, they should go back to a factory, where they can be used again.
Northvolt, a Swedish battery-maker, aims by 2030 to produce batteries enough to power some 2 million EVS from the three gigafacotries. By then, around half its raw materials should come from recycling old batteries. Using recycling and renewable power, CATL, a Chinese EV batteries firm, similarly, thinks it should eventually be possible to shrink the carbon footprint of a battery towards zero.
Carmakers such as the Renault Group and Stellantis, owner of brands that include Chrysler and Peugeot are both setting up circular-economy businesses, not just for batteries, but also for repairing and reconditioning parts and vehicles. Each of these operations will, bosses hope, have annual income of more than 2 billion dollars by the end of the decade.
32.Which of the following statements is right
A.Circular economy is a one-way business.
B.Recycling is an important part of manufacturing.
C.Greenwashing helps improve recycling of raw materials.
D.Peugeot is setting up circular-economy businesses.
33.By mentioning Northvolt and CATL, the author means to show that ______.
A.Gigafactories are making some progress in recycling.
B.Northvolt is building 3 gigafactories to power some 2 million EVS.
C.Northvolt set up circular-economy businesses to make money.
D.CATL has cut down the carbon footprint to zero.
34.What does the underlined word “operations” refer to
A.The Chinese firm is producing EV batteries.

Consider your own social media posts. 38 Well, so have others. And what they’ve left hidden is the fact that boredom, loneliness and unpleasant chores are an unavoidable part of everyone’s life, and you’re not the only one feeling left out.
39 You may not be a regular at fancy parties or a climber of dizzying peaks, but you have your health, a place to live and real friends who appreciate your presence in their lives.
Lean to shake it off. We are all flooded daily with photos of other people’s perfections, but really, what does it matter 40 And even if you are more easily affected than others by social media envy, all you need to do is to look around you and acknowledge that you are doing pretty well after all.
