Located in the middle of Turkey, the Cappadocia region is visited by millions of tourists each year who go for its volcanic rock formations, colorful cliffs and valleys, and ancient buildings carved into the rock. Here are some of the best things to do if you are visiting Cappadocia.
Hot air balloon ride
Perhaps one of the best ways to see Cappadocia’s landscape is from the sky. A popular activity for tourists is a hot air balloon ride over the region, which is home to Goreme National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As they fly, tourists can watch the natural rock tower formations known as “fairy chimneys” pass underneath, joining as many as 150 colorful balloons in the air on the same day.
Exploring underground cities
Cappadocia is also known for the 200 or more underground cities carved into its soft volcanic rock. The largest of these cities, Derinkuyu, has 18 levels of tunnels and could be over 3,000 years old. Rediscovered in the 1960s, it is one of several underground cities in the area that are now open to the public.
ATV tours
For a higher-energy experience, consider an all-terrain vehicle(ATV)tour. Often lasting around two hours, the tours will stop at some of the top places to take pictures and enjoy the view. The best time of day to do an ATV tour is at sunset, when the rocks reflect the light from the sun in pink and red colors.
Hiking trails
For those who would like to do things more slowly, the region also offers many hiking trails that pass historical sites and places to enjoy the view. For example, visitors can find churches carved into the rock in Rose Valley and see ancient pigeon houses—carved into the rock for raising pigeons—on the Pigeon Valley hike.
1. What can we know about the Derinkuyu
A. It has a long history. B. It stands on a volcano.
C. It was discovered again in 1960. D. It is the only city open to the public.
2. In which activity are you most likely to enjoy a breathtaking sunset
A. Hiking trails B. ATV tours
C. Hot air balloon ride D. Exploring underground cities
3. What do Hot air balloon ride and Hiking trails have in common
A. Visitors can have a slow journey.
B. Visitors can enjoy a bird’s eye view.
C. Visitors can enjoy the view of ancient sites.
D. Visitors can stop at some top places to take photos.

根据小标题Hot air balloon ride下面段落中“The largest of these cities, Derinkuyu, has 18 levels of tunnels and could be over 3,000 years old. Rediscovered in the 1960s, it is one of several underground cities in the area that are now open to the public.(其中最大的城市,德林库尤,有18层隧道,可能有3000多年的历史。它在20世纪60年代被重新发现,是该地区现在向公众开放的几个地下城市之一。)” 可知,Derinkuyu有着3,000多年的悠久历史。故选A项。
根据小标题ATV tours下面段落中“The best time of day to do an ATV tour is at sunset, when the rocks reflect the light from the sun in pink and red colors.(一天中进行亚视之旅的最佳时间是日落时分,此时岩石反射出粉红色和红色的阳光。)”
根据小标题Hot air balloon ride下面段落中“a hot air balloon ride over the region, which is home to Goreme National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site(乘坐热气球飞越该地区,这里是联合国教科文组织世界遗产戈雷梅国家公园的所在地)”以及最后一段中“the region also offers many hiking trails that pass historical sites and places to enjoy the view.(该地区还提供许多徒步旅行路线,经过历史遗迹和欣赏风景的地方。)”
B
When I was a child, I was often asked at school who my role model was, the person that you admire and inspires you. I always mentioned different names: from the celebrity of the moment to my grandfather.
It was always difficult for me to choose a single person as a role model, because I liked different things from different people. Based on the people that I admired and inspired me, I managed to create a custom role model in my mind.
For years there has been a constant struggle to achieve gender equality, and when I decided to study at my university I leaned towards engineering because I wanted a challenge in my life, both intellectually and culturally. Back then, only 10% of the students were women. This certainly did not stop me. On the contrary, it was a determining factor for me to prove myself that I could handle something that was “not expected” for women.
Throughout my studies I realized that there was no difference between me and my teammates; we all had the same possibilities and capabilities. However, my main challenge was determined by culture, as we grew up with certain values and social norms that told us that careers in science or engineering were not for women.
It was complicated and I had to go through uncomfortable situations, but pursuing a technical career brought me many benefits, such as developing systematic thinking. This is a basic tool to create possibilities in the future and achieve a more rational understanding about the economic and social systems in which we live, and it allows you to have the possibility to become the architect of your own life.
When girls decide to pursue a technical career, they not only benefit themselves, but also help break the stereotypes in their environment. They become agents of change capable of modifying existing structures.
It is like sowing seeds for the future. If we want a fairer world where women and men can decide on our future, we have to involve girls starting today, encouraging them to explore technology and science. Sow a seed and in the future it will give you a tree with many fruits. This is not only an individual benefit but a collective one.
4. What did the author manage to do in her childhood
A. Change her role models all the time.
B. Find the basis for admiring a person.
C. Imagine a particular role model for herself.
D. Treat her grandfather as a famous person.
5. What did the author want to prove by studying engineering
A. Women have intellectual challenges.
B. Women are different in capabilities.
C. Women achieved gender equality at work.
D. Women are suitable for technical careers.
6. Why does the author give the example of systematic thinking
A. To stress the benefits of technical careers.
B. To explain its application in architecture.
C. To introduce this basic thinking tool.
D. To show the possibilities it brings in life.
7. What does the author encourage girls to do
A. Become famous models. B. Explore science and technology.
C. Struggle for gender equality. D. Decide on their own future.
C 5. D 6. A 7. B
根据第一段“When I was a child, I was often asked at school who my role model was, the person that you admire and inspires you.(当我还是个孩子的时候,在学校里经常有人问我,我的榜样是谁,你崇拜的人,激励你的人)”以及第二段中“It was always difficult for me to choose a single person as a role model, because I liked different things from different people. Based on the people that I admired and inspired me, I managed to create a custom role model in my mind.(对我来说,选择一个人作为榜样总是很困难的,因为我喜欢不同人的不同东西。以我崇拜和激励我的人为基础,我在脑海中创造了一个自定义的榜样)”可知,作者在童年时设法想象自己有一个特别的榜样。故选C项。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“For years there has been a constant struggle to achieve gender equality, and when I decided to study at my university I leaned towards engineering because I wanted a challenge in my life, both intellectually and culturally. Back then, only 10% of the students were women. This certainly did not stop me. On the contrary, it was a determining factor for me to prove myself that I could handle something that was “not expected” for women.(多年来,人们一直在为实现性别平等而斗争,当我决定在大学学习时,我倾向于选择工程学,因为我想在生活中面临挑战,无论是在智力上还是在文化上。当时,只有10%的学生是女性。这当然没有阻止我。相反,这是一个决定性因素,让我证明自己,我可以处理一些女性“不期望”的事情)”可知,当时,工程学的学生中只有10%的学生是女性。可推知,作者通过学习工程学想要证明可以处理一些女性“不期望”的事情,也即是女性也适合技术职业。故选D项。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第三段中“It was complicated and I had to go through uncomfortable situations, but pursuing a technical career brought me many benefits, such as developing systematic thinking.(这很复杂,我不得不经历一些不舒服的情况,但从事技术职业给我带来了很多好处,比如培养了系统思维)”可知,作者举系统思维的例子是为了强调技术职业的好处,故选A项。
根据倒数第二段“When girls decide to pursue a technical career, they not only benefit themselves, but also help break the stereotypes in their environment. They become agents of change capable of modifying existing structures.(当女孩决定从事技术职业时,她们不仅受益于自己,也有助于打破她们所处环境中的刻板印象。他们成为变革的推动者,能够改变现有的结构)”以及最后一段中“It is like sowing seeds for the future. If we want a fairer world where women and men can decide on our future, we have to involve girls starting today, encouraging them to explore technology and science. Sow a seed and in the future it will give you a tree with many fruits. This is not only an individual benefit but a collective one.(这就像为未来播下种子。如果我们想要一个更公平的世界,让女性和男性可以决定我们的未来,我们必须从今天开始让女孩参与进来,鼓励她们探索技术和科学。播下一颗种子,将来它会给你一棵结满果实的树。这不仅是个人利益,也是集体利益)”可知,作者从个人和社会两方面说明女性探索科学和技术的好处,所以是鼓励女孩们去探索科学和技术。故选B项。

The social media platform Instagram once made headlines for limiting likes in an effort to reduce the comparisons and hurt feelings resulting from attaching popularity to sharing content. A small step in the right direction, says Jacqueline Sperling, a psychologist who works with youths that experience anxiety disorders.
Social media has a reinforcing nature. The platforms are designed to be addictive and are related to anxiety, depression, and even physical illnesses. But what makes users come back for more even when it can literally make them feel sick
“The unknown outcome and the possibility of a desired outcome can keep users engaged with the sites,” Sperling says. “When the outcome is unpredictable, the behavior is more likely to repeat.” To boost self-esteem and feel a sense of belonging in their social circles, people post content with the hope of receiving positive feedback. FOMO--fear of missing out--f also plays a role. Teenagers hope to keep track of friends’ activities. Missing experiences can create anxiety and depression.
The earlier teens start using social media, the greater impact they have on mental health. This is especially true for females. While teen males tend to express aggression physically, females do so by excluding others and sharing hurtful comments. Social media increases the opportunity for such harmful interactions.
In addition, social media puts a lens filter (滤镜) on appearances and reality. When there’s a filter applied to the digital world, it can be hard for teens to tell what’s real and what isn’t, which comes at a tough time for them physically and emotionally.
We can benefit from social platforms to some extent, as they allow people to stay in touch with family and friends around the world. Still, the platforms have opened a “Pandora’s box” as they continue to evolve more quickly than we can research their impact.
In addition to limiting likes, Sperling suggests social platforms consider decreasing mass sharing. Regardless of how likely social media giants, are to change their ways, though, individuals can take control of their own behavior.
8. Why does Instagram limit likes
A. To share more contents. B. To increase its popularity.
C. To ensure teens’ well-being. D. To reduce teens’ online time.
9. What does “Pandora’s box” in Paragraph 6 imply
A. Social media can be double-edged. B. People benefit from social platforms.
C. People get boxes of gifts from social platforms. D. Social media opens a door for people to. see the world.
10. Which of the following does Sperling agree with
A. Its lens. help teens to tell the real world.
B. Its unpredictable outcome attracts frequent visits.
C. It is helpful to teens with anxiety and depression.
D. It has a greater impact on female teens than male, teens.
11. What will the author most probably talk about next
A. Advice on users’ controlling mass sharing. B. Reasons for teens’ posting addictions.
C. Negative effects of harmful interactions. D. Ways of social media giants’ management.
C 9. A 10. B 11. A
根据文章第一段第一句话“The social media platform Instagram once made headlines for limiting likes in an effort to reduce the comparisons and hurt feelings resulting from attaching popularity to sharing content.(社交媒体平台Instagram曾因限制点赞,以减少因分享内容受欢迎而产生的比较和伤害感而成为头条新闻。)” The platforms are designed to be addictive and are related to anxiety, depression, and even physical illnesses. But what makes users come back for more even when it can literally make them feel sick (社交媒体具有强化的本质。这些平台旨在让人上瘾,并与焦虑、抑郁甚至身体疾病有关。但是,是什么让用户回来买更多的东西,即使它真的让他们感到恶心 )”可知,社交媒体与焦虑、抑郁甚至身体疾病的产生也息息相关。同时文章的谈论对象为青少年。因此,Instagram 此举有助于青少年健康地使用社交媒体以确保其身心健康。故选C。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第六段“We can benefit from social platforms to some extent, as they allow people to stay in touch with family and friends around the world. Still, the platforms have opened a “Pandora’s box” as they continue to evolve more quickly than we can research their impact.(在某种程度上,我们可以从社交平台中受益,因为它们允许人们与世界各地的家人和朋友保持联系。尽管如此,这些平台还是打开了一个“潘多拉的盒子”,因为它们的发展速度比我们研究它们的影响要快得多。)”前后两个句子的逻辑关系可知,社交媒体既有利也有弊。所以“潘多拉的盒子”意味着社交媒体可能是一把双刃剑。故选A。
根据第三段 ““The unknown outcome and the possibility of a desired outcome can keep users engaged with the sites,” Sperling says. “When the outcome is unpredictable, the behavior is more likely to repeat.”(未知的结果和预期结果的可能性可以让用户留在网站上。”
根据最后一段 Sperling 建议减少大量分享以及本段最后一句话“Regardless of how likely social media giants, are to change their ways, though, individuals can take control of their own behavior.( 然而,无论社交媒体巨头有多大可能改变他们的方式,个人都可以控制自己的行为。)” 故选A。
D
Climate change leads to a threat to the world’s sandy beaches, and as many as half of them could disappear by 2100, a new study has found. Even by 2050 some coastlines could be unrecognizable from what we see today, with 10% to 12% facing severe erosion (侵蚀).
Using updated sea level rise predictions, the researchers analyzed how beaches around the world would be in a future with higher seas and more damaging storms. They also considered natural processes like wave erosion, as well as human factors-like coastal building developments, all of which can affect a beach’s health. The study found that sea level rise is expected to outweigh these other factors, and that the more heat-trapping gases humans put into the atmosphere, the worse the influences on the world’s beaches are likely to be.
It’s hard to overstate just how important the world’s beaches are. They cover more than one third of the world’s coastlines, and protect coastal areas from storms. Beaches are also important economic engines, supporting relaxation, tourism and other activities. And in some areas, the beach is more than a vacation destination. In places like Australia, life near the coast revolves around the beach for much of the year.
Some of the world’s most popular beaches are already taking action. Places like Miami Beach are trucking in thousands of tons of sand to patch up (修复) badly eroded shorelines, while others have built sea walls and breakwaters in an attempt to hold precious sand in place. But the financial and environmental costs of these projects are huge, and scientists say rising seas and more powerful storms, supercharged by a warmer climate, will make this a losing battle.
However, the researchers did find that humans have some control over what happens to the world’s beaches. If the world’s governments are able to stick to modest cuts to heat-trapping gas pollution, the researchers found that 22%of projected beach losses by 2050 could be prevented, a number that grows to 40%by 2100 if greenhouse gases are limited.
12. Which is the biggest contributor to severe beach erosion
A. Damaging storms. B. Wave erosion.
C. Coastal building. D. Sea level rise.
13. What can we infer from Paragraph 3
A. It is hard to protect coastal beaches.
B. One third of storms take place near beaches.
C. Beaches are of great significance to our lives.
D. Most Australians live on beach tourism.
14. What does the underlined word “this” refer to in Paragraph 4
A. Popularizing the beaches.
B. Holding sand in place.
C. Reducing the project costs.
D. Stopping global warming.
15. What is the best title for the text
A. Half beaches could disappear by 2100.
B. Climate change is doing harm to our lives.
C. The beach is more than a vacation destination.
D. Governments are taking action to fight wave erosion.
D 13. C 14. B 15. A

It’s hard to overstate just how important the world’s beaches are. They cover more than one third of the world’s coastlines, and protect coastal areas from storms. Beaches are also important economic engines, supporting relaxation, tourism and other activities得知很难夸大世界上的海滩有多重要。
根据第四段while others have built sea walls and breakwaters in an attempt to hold precious sand in place. But the financial and environmental costs of these projects are huge, and scientists say rising seas and more powerful storms, supercharged by a warmer climate, will make this a losing battle. 得知this指代的是Hold sand in place。
Climate change leads to a threat to the world’s sandy beaches, and as many as half of them could disappear by 2100, a new study has found. 故选A。

根据上文 “People are always denying their pain. They don't want to recognize it because they want to be sensed as okay, especially at this age. People are so concerned with being cool and being popular that they don't want to be the person with problems. (人们总是否认自己的痛苦。他们不想去认识它,因为他们希望被感觉到没事,尤其是在这个年龄段。人们太在意自己的酷和受欢迎,所以他们不想成为有问题的人。)”由此可知,人们总是逃避痛苦,不想承认自己是有问题的人,而实际上你逃避的东西最终还是要去面对。故 G 选项“然而,你选择逃避的东西最终追上你”,承接前一句,符合题意,故选G。
【17题详解】
根据上文“ Figuring out what makes you feel painful can be very beneficial because a lot of the time we are so mixed up with our emotions that we need to sort them out with others' help. (弄清楚是什么让你感到痛苦是非常有益的,因为很多时候我们的情绪太复杂了,我们需要在别人的帮助下理清它们。)以及后文“ Find someone you trust and open your heart to them. Talk to an adult, a tutor or your parent. (找一个你信任的人,向他们敞开心扉。与成年人、家庭教师或父母交谈。)”可知,前后文都强调寻求他人的帮助,说明要解决自己的痛苦,只依靠自身力量是不够的。故 C 选项“仅仅依靠自己是不可能的”符合语境,故选 C。
【18题详解】
根据上文“ You'd be surprised to learn how kind people will be. (你会惊讶地发现人们是多么的善良。)”以及后文“ They are willing to make sure you are okay and if you're not, they want to do whatever they can to help you. (他们愿意确保你没事,如果你有事,他们会尽其所能帮助你。)”可知,本句承接上文说明那些善良人是如何对待需要帮助的人的,他们担心你,想确保你没事。故 E 选项“他们担心你,他们只想给你最好的”符合语境,故选E。
【19题详解】
根据后文“ It's always okay to have secrets and things you simply want to keep to yourself. (拥有秘密和你只想保密的事情总是可以的。)”可知,人可以拥有秘密,没有必要分享心中的一切。结合选项可知, D 选项“你没有必要分享你心中的一切”符合语境,与后文表达意思一致。故选D。
【20题详解】
根据上文 “The worst thing is to suffer alone. (最糟糕的事就是一个人受苦。)”以及后文 “Remember that you deserve to be heard and you deserve to be helped. (记住,你值得被倾听,你值得被帮助。)”可知,上文提到一个人承受是很糟糕的事情,后文则指出值得被倾听,说明本句是在说明不要选择沉默,一个人受苦,而是把自己的痛苦说出来。故 A 选项“你的沉默不会让你变得更坚强”符合语境,故选A。

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The class was over. Karl was delighted that he had created a very satisfying work. So he walked to the back of the classroom to put his work away carefully. There, lying on the carpet in front of the classroom bookcase, was a golden ticket! Karl picked it up. His heart beat faster when he saw that the name line was blank(空白的). He couldn’t believe his luck!
The boys and girls in Karl’s class could earn golden tickets by doing well in their study or by being extra helpful or kind. Once a week their teacher drew a ticket out of a box on her desk and let the winner choose a prize.
Today was the golden ticket drawing, and here was another ticket, just for him! Karl looked around. No one else was near the ticket. All his classmates were at their desks, laughing and talking with each other. Miss Evans was engaged in grading the papers collected earlier in the morning.
Karl decided to write his name on the blank line. Then he could put it into the prize box with the six tickets he’d already earned. With so many chances, one of his tickets would most likely be picked! Then he could choose the pink toy pig for his sister’s birthday, just like he had been hoping.
He smiled and reached for the pencil in his pocket. Suddenly his fingers stopped. There was a strange feeling in his chest, and it wasn’t his heartbeat. “Finders are keepers, right ”, he wondered. He looked out of the window and tried to figure it out. On the one hand, he did find the ticket, but he hadn’t earned it. Somebody must have lost it. But on the other hand, he did need this extra ticket for his great plan!
Paragraph 1:
Karl looked at the blank name line for a moment.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
“Karl, I intend to give you another ticket!” Miss Evans said.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Karl looked at the blank name line for a moment. He knew his plan wouldn’t be so great if he won with a ticket that didn’t belong to him. So he walked up to his teacher. “Miss Evans, I happened to find this ticket on the floor near the bookcase. I think the one who lost it will look for it. And these are mine,” he said, his six tickets into the box. When he turned around to leave, the teacher stopped him.
“Karl, I intend to give you another ticket!” Miss Evans said. Karl was amazed and wondered why. Miss Evans smiled and signed to the class to quiet down, “Karl handed in the golden ticket he had just found. I think he is honest and deserves another one!” The class burst into loud applause. Karl happily went back to his seat, eagerly expecting the ticket drawing. He still wanted his name to be picked, but he would feel OK even if it wasn’t. After all, making the right choice did make him feel great!

A Hiking trails B. ATV tours

In addition social media puts a lens filter (滤镜) on appearances and reality.
