I was never very neat, while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.
War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, “Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.
The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬) under her covers, sobbing.
Obviously, that was something she should not go through phone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart. Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn’t noticed Kate had sat up.
She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, “Thanks.”

When we think of leadership, we often think of strength and power. But what are these really, and how do they operate
Leadership today is not about forcing others to do things. If this is even possible, it is short-term, and tends to backfire. If you order someone to do something against their will, they may do it because they feel they must, but the anger they feel will do more harm in the long-term. They will also experience fear.
Fear causes the thinking brain to shut down, making the person unable to function at his or her best. If they associate you with this emotion of fear, they will become less functional around you, and you will have succeeded in not only shooting yourself in the foot, but possibly making a very good employee or partner unable to perform effectively. Fear has no place in leadership.
The way we influence people in a lasting way is by our own character, and our understanding and use of emotion. We can order someone to do something, which may be part of the work day; or we can employ them at the emotional level, so they became fully devoted to the projects and provide some of their own motivation (积极性). Today’s work place is all about relationships. Anyone works harder in a positive environment in which they’re recognized and valued as a human being as well as a worker. Everyone produces just a bit more for someone they like. Leaders understand the way things work. They know the pay check is not the single most motivating factor (因素) in the work life of most people.
The true strength of leadership is an inner strength that comes from the confidence of emotional intelligence---knowing your own emotions, and how to handle them, and those of others. Developing your emotional intelligence is the single best thing you can do if you want to develop your relationships with people around you, which is the key to the leadership skills.
46. The underlined phrase “shooting oneself in the foot” means _____ in this passage.

D. Good relationship is the key to business success.

Have you ever wanted to see your dreams after you woke up Artificial intelligence (AI) technology may help you do this in the near future!
Researchers from Osaka University in Japan have trained an AI system to recreate images in people’s heads. The pictures AI has created include a teddy bear, an airplane and a clock tower. The technology is 80 percent accurate, reported Science magazine.
Previously there have been AI models that can turn a word or phrase into images. The AI has studied lots of images and their text descriptions. Over time, the AI can find patterns and recreate pictures if you first input text.
This time, the researchers took a step further. They trained the AI to link people’s brain scan data with images. They asked four people to look at 10, 000 different images, and let the AI find patterns of blood flow in the brain. Then the patterns can be related to the images.
If people looked at an airplane, the AI would use the brain scan data to create an image of a very cloudy airplane. Then, it would turn on the previous “text - to - image” model. By feeding the keyword “airplane”, the AI would improve the image and make it more real.
“It’s a new method that combines textual and visual information to ‘decipher the brain’”, Ariel Goldstein from Princeton University told Science magazine.
Researchers said the technology could someday help people with paralysis to communicate. It might also help scientists understand dreams or even how other animals see the world.
51. What do we know about the AI system mentioned in Paragraph 2
A. It can help train people’s minds. B. It can fully present people’s dreams.
C. It was created for drawing people’s heads. D. It can recreate pictures in people’s heads.
52. How did the previous AI models turn phrases into images
A. By understanding the meaning of the words.
B. By finding patterns in images and their text descriptions.
C. By drawing pictures according to users’ orders.
D. By finding different photos from the internet.
53. What is the working process of the new AI system
A. relate with image→scan blood flow→improve the text→turn into the image
B. relate with image→turn into text→scan blood flow→improve the image
C. scan blood flow→relate with image→turn into text→improve the image
D. scan blood flow→turn into text→relate with image→improve the image
54. What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. How to know the way animals see the world.
B. How people with paralysis talk with others.
C. What the new AI technology could be used for.
D. How AI technology affects people’s dreams,

Are you aged between 14 and 19 years old Do you care about your local environment Would you like to help make the area you live in better, cleaner, safer and friendlier If your answers are ‘yes’, ‘yes’ and ‘yes’, then read on! A local organization is carrying out a project, giving money to groups of teenagers who want to become active citizens. Here are a few easy things you could do to get started.
Meeting the neighbors. Everybody needs good neighbors. Knock on people’s doors and find out what they would like to improve in your area. Set a date for a meeting and then make some plans together. If you don’t want to go round to their houses, then you could always put a note through their doors.
Neighborhood watch. It is very popular in the UK. If you go away on holiday and leave your house, it’s very nice to know that a neighbor is keeping an eye on it. It’s a good way to make the area you live in safer.
Lending a hand. There are often elderly people living in the neighborhood who may not be able to do the things that you can. Offer to do their shopping once a week, look after their gardens for them or maybe walk their dogs!
No littering. Nobody likes picking up other people’s rubbish, but a clean street can make all the difference. Go out once or twice a week and see what you can find. You never know, one day you might find something valuable!
Just tell us what you want to do. Then we’ll send you more information.

三、阅读理解(共15题,每题2分)
A
I was never very neat, while my roommate Kate was extremely organized.
Kate and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didn’t always agree, but we learned the key to living together: giving in, clearning up and holding on.

A. throw or walk in a specific direction or towards a specific objective

C. to move or pass suddenly or swiftly
D. to injure or harm one's own interests
47. An employee may have a feeling of fear in the work place when ___.

A. provide a variety of project for employees

I am more than delighted to hear from you. I’m writing to talk about my feelings after entering high school for two months in reply to your last letter.
At first, I found it a little difficult to get used to the senior school life. The subjects we are learning are obviously more difficult. Besides, with endless homework to do, we almost have no time for exercise and other activities. Fortunately, the teachers and classmates are all helpful and kind. It is with their help that I have overcome my fear and made great progress. So my advice to high school students is to be patient and have trust in your teachers and classmates, who won’t disappoint you.
High school is an important stage of life. In order to enter my favorite university, I must actively participate in extracurricular activities and prioritize effective time management.
How about your school life Looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Li Jin
