Having a hobby is a great way to feel happy and meet new people. In fact, there are lots of hobbies that are good for you.
Hobbies are anything you do for fun. You aren’t getting paid to do them; they’re something you like to do with your free time. For a lot of people these days it seems like their only leisure activities are watching television and staying on the Internet. That’s a pity, because hobbies—from rock climbing to collecting something—can be really good.
Hobbies often provide something that you might not get in your everyday life. They allow you to do something that’s just for you, and they can help you forget your daily problems and give you a lot of pleasure. If you can find like-minded people in your area, going outside can also be a great way to meet new people and experience new activities.
If you’re adding a new thing into your life, you have to take time and focus(关注) away from something else. The good news is that most of us have a lot of time we’re not using well, either because we’re spending a lot of time online or watching TV or just wasting time we could be spending on our hobbies.
Of course everyone is different and your personality does play a role in what kinds of hobbies you’ll like. Maybe you really like going out with friends, so you need to take a class or have an interest that you can do with a group. If you travel a lot, something that you can do anywhere is helpful; if you are a homebody, you might love to be surrounded by a cool collection.
The truth is that you may not hit the perfect activity for you right out of the gate, but you can have a lot of fun trying out new things and exploring what’s out there. Do some web searches, visit the library, don’t be afraid to try new things, and soon you’ll have a hobby that provides you with a lot of fun and less stress, too.

In the first semester (学期) of college, Professor Kelly lectured us in his Acting I class about the importance of taking the business of acting seriously. As I prepare to take on my senior year, I think back on the first semester and I consider my seriousness and my love, for the art of theatre. I’m pleased to say that, for the most part, my determination remains as strong as ever.
Even after I’ve learned about the difficulties and heartbreak that go with pursuing (追求) work as an actor, I know that it is still the right path for me. Something Professor Kelly said in that first acting class has stuck with me through these last three years. He said, “Every actor chooses to act for their own reasons—personally I do it because I have to. I have to perform. It’s who I am.” For as long as I’ve been performing, I’ve wondered how to best describe why I do what I do. Professor Kelly answered that question for me that day. When I was little and first imagined what it would be like to be a real actor, I would imagine being famous someday. However, I never actually wanted that. Fame was never my reason for putting my heart into my work.
I did it because I was myself.
There was never a question of what I wanted to do with my life. If I didn’t pursue acting, I had no idea what I would do. I was lucky that my family understood me. They knew from the start that nothing was going to keep me from doing what I loved.

According to a research, more than 130 billion pounds of uneaten food go to waste in Laura`s country each year. That is about 30% of the yearly food supply(供应). It is a sad fact, especially when you consider how many families and homeless people are in hunger.
When Laura saw her school dining hall throw away food that was not eaten at all every day, she came up with an idea. She started a project to help her school dining hall to give away uneaten food to homeless shelters(庇护所)in her community. In the past three years, the same project has spread to other schools and some fast food restaurants throughout the city. The project is called Feed & Find, and has already fed thousands of people in her city. How does it work Through an app, Feed & Find matches local homeless shelters with school dining halls and restaurants that have uneaten food to provide. When dining halls or restaurants have uneaten food left, they can use the app to share the information about the food. A truck driver working for the project is then sent to pick it up and take it to a shelter.

八、话题作文
The Double Ninth Festival is a traditional Chinese festival. On that day, people usually climb mountains and go outing with their family. It’s also a day to show respect to the old.
As a teenager, I try my best to do what I can to be nice to the old. I often visit my grandparents on weekends and talk to them and cheer them up. I also help them with the housework. Meanwhile, I am polite to the old. When I see them on the bus, I always offer them my seat. Moreover, I volunteer to look after the old who live alone in our neighborhood. I help them carry heavy things when they need help.
I think it’s very important to respect the old because they have done a lot for their family and for the country. One day, we will all be old.
