When I teach yoga(瑜伽), I usually announce “Phones off and at the back of the room" at the beginning of class. Recently, I forgot and had to whisper to a student texting during class to turn off her phone. She looked displeased but did so. But two days later, in another class, I met with resistance from a young woman who completely refused.
"But I’m on call. I might have to jump up and run out of class."
"Then maybe this isn’t the best place for you to be tonight."
That response got me an angry and unfriendly look. But when she came back the next week, there was no phone and she was much more present.
Present is what I'm asking my students to be. Present to themselves and their yoga experience. You cannot be present to yoga if you are texting or emailing or anxiously awaiting a call. And neither can anyone around you. Definitely, if one phone is out, many pairs of eyes are drawn to it. And then other phones start to appear. Forget the fact that you’re missing the class you paid for; you're at risk of losing your balance and hurting yourself or someone else due to inattention, or disturbing someone else’s moment of peace and stillness with the clicking of your keys.
So please, do yourself and everyone around you, this teacher included, a favor and turn your phone off and put it away before you unroll your yoga mat. If you truly are on call, think hard before you come to class.
Be present for yourself, wherever you need to be.
( )4. How does the author introduce her topic
A. By giving examples.
B. By making comparison.
C. By presenting the process.
D. By analyzing cause and effect.
( )5. Why was the young woman angry with the author
A. Because she thought she was reasonable.
B. Because she was brave enough to say no.
C. Because she didn’t like the yoga class at all.
D. Because the author was rude to her.
( )6. Which is NOT the probable result of using phones in yoga class
A. Hurting yourself.
B. Missing the class.
C. Disturbing others.
D. Getting others’ admiration.
( )7. What's the author's purpose of writing this text
A. To describe the situation of her yoga class.
B. To explain her relationship with students.
C. To show her opinion about using mobile phones.
D. To stress the importance of being attentive in yoga class.
C篇
In late May, America announced a plan to greatly expand offshore wind energy installations(安装)along the Pacific,Atlantic, and Gulf coasts, with the ultimate goal of adding clean energy enough to power 10 million homes by 2030. But is it realistic
Those standing on the side of answering yes to this question understand that innovation is the key to pulling off the project. Unlike the open plains and rounded hills that traditionally host wind turbines(涡轮), analyzing the seafloor situation for proper placement isn't a simple exercise. With only 20% of the ocean seafloor mapped, we basically know more about the surface of Mars than we do Earth's hidden depths.
Startup Bedrock is aiming to help shine a light on this problem by detecting the seas with its new electric self-driven underwater vehicles (AUV). Traditional ocean mapping techniques are ship-based, usually limited to the surface, Thus, traditional sea surveys can take up to a year to collect and process data. But Bedrock's AUVs send data to a cloud-based platform called Mosaic that allows computers to start working with the results nearly right away and from anywhere in the world
While using AUVs to map the seafloor helps improve our understanding of Earth's oceans, Bedrock was careful that this does not come at the expense of sea life. The company uses smaller sensors that are close to the seafloor and operate in sound frequencies safe for animals. In addition, the AUVs only travel at roughly 2.3 mph to 3.45 mph, which reduces the chance of animal or environmental damage as they are moving.
Beyond the offshore wind industry: Bedrock is also exploring other ways its AUVs might benefit other marine-based efforts.“Currently our AUV surveys are designed for offshore wind projects, cable laying, nearshore environmental mapping for coastal management," says Bedrock CEO and co-founder DiMare.“In the future, we're also capable of serving new markets, helping to make ambitious government goals a reality."
( )8. Why is the surface of Mars mentioned in Paragraph 2
A. To raise a doubt.
B. To prove a point.
C. To explain a rule.
D. To make a prediction.
( )9. What advantage does Bedrock's AUV mapping have over traditional techniques
A. It processes data faster.
B. It is more energy-saving.
C. It uses more platforms.
D. It sends data in greater amount.
( )l0. What can be inferred about Bedrock's AUVs from the last two paragraphs
A. They have served new markets.
B. They are environmentally-friendly.
C. They are equipped with newer sensors.
D. They work with high sound frequencies.
( ) 11. What is DiMare's attitude to the future of AUV
A. Confident.
B. Unclear.
C. Doubtful.
D. Cautious.

Japan is particularly vulnerable to(易受…..的伤害) natural disasters because of its climate and topography(地形), and it has experienced countless earthquakes, typhoons, and other types of disasters.
A number of factors contribute to the high incidence of natural disasters in Japan. Firstly, the country faces extreme climate changes, such as seasonal rain fronts and typhoons, as well as heavy snowfall on the Sea of Japan. Secondly, Japan’s topography is rugged(崎岖不平的). Thirdly, Japan is located in the Pacific earthquake belt and is often struck by earthquakes, while its complex coastline is vulnerable to tsunamis. And fourthly, Japan is located in the circum-Pacific zone, in which almost all the volcanoes of the world are concentrated, and has 83 active volcanoes-one-tenth of the world total.
Between the end of World War Il and the late 1950s, when Japan’s defenses against disasters were weakened by the war, the country was hit by a series of major typhoons, violent earthquakes, and other disasters, and over 1,000 lives were lost almost every year, The Ise Bay Typhoon of September 1959 killed more than 5,000 people, the biggest number in the postwar period. It urged the establishment of a planned and complete disaster prevention administration system, and in 1961 the Disaster Countermeasures Basic Act was made. After that measures for prevention, emergency relief, and recovery were linked interactively under a system that ensured effective ways to disaster countermeasures. In June 1960 a decision was reached to observe a “Disaster Prevention Day" each year on September I as a means of spreading disaster prevention knowledge and raising public awareness.
Japan in the 1960s thus began actively carrying out measures to shore up both the physical and institutional safeguards against disasters, with particular measures being placed on disaster prevention. These efforts have greatly reduced the number of people who die or become missing as a result of natural disasters. The declining trend is still continuing, and the number has fallen to between 100 and 200 per year in recent years.
( )12. Why do many natural disasters happen in Japan
A. Because of Japan’s ignorance.
B. Because of Japan’s location.
C. Because of Japan’s poor ability.
D. Because of Japan's wrong measures.
( )13.What is most likely to happen in the circum-Pacific zone
A. Heavy snowfall.
B. Earthquakes.
C. Typhoons.
D. Volcano eruptions.
( )14. What can we know about the Ise Bay Typhoon
A. It showed Japan's defenses against disasters were weak.
B. It promoted the disaster prevention administration system.
C. It was the worst disaster in Japan's history.
D. It made about 1,000 people lose their lives.
( )l5. What does the author intend to tell us in Paragraph 4
A. There are still many natural disasters in Japan now.
B. Japan did a lot to fight against natural disasters in the 1960s.
C. The natural disasters in Japan are dropping.
D. Japan's measures against natural disasters have worked much.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Can you recognize the moment when you realize you've mastered a foreign language It's not when you get a perfect score on a grammar test. 16 And it takes hard work for your inner thoughts to start flowing in a language that's not native. Here are some tips that will help you achieve the goal.
Stop the Translating Habit
Don't try to say something after thinking of a sentence word by word in your own language and then translating it into foreign words. It's ineffective because the logical flow of words in your mother tongue won't sound well in a foreign language. When you're thinking of something to say, start with the main parts of the sentence: the subject and the verb. 17
18
It's easier to learn the words when you add them into context, and you connect them with one another. If, for example, you’re learning the word “morning” in a foreign language, you should also look up for words that go with it, such as “good” or “early”. You should also pair it with the opposites and check out some synonyms. That's the best approach to getting a huge vocabulary.
Practice Writing
A writing practice will help you keep track of your progress, but it will also help you remember the things you’ve learned. Try to notice and fix the mistakes in your writing. 19
This practice will not only make you a more confident speaker, but also help you start thinking in a foreign language.
Practice Speaking and Listening
20 Turn speaking and listening into a daily activity. You can listen to audiobooks(有声读物) in the foreign language, and then talk to someone about the impressions. If you don't have anyone to talk to, just get in an empty room, record your speech and listen to it. You’ll surely recognize the signs of progress.
A. Learn Words in Pairs B. Pay Attention to Grammar C. Make sure you follow grammar rules. D. It’s when you start thinking in that language! E. That's the final tip that leads you to perfection. F. Then, it will be easy for you to build the structure upon that foundation. G. Make sure to put the rules you learn into practice every single day, and keep track of your progress.

It was 8 o'clock on Sunday. Amy still stayed in bed, listening to the radio. Her mother, Hannah, asked her to switch off the radio and finish her homework, but she didn't listen. Her mother went out of the room with anger.
Next morning, Amy went to school cursing(咒骂) everyone possible for having to go to school. Even in school, Amy had a reputation of sorts for all the wrong reasons. She slept in class and did not finish her work. In playtime, Amy had to go out and play, but she tried to find an excuse saying that she was tired when someone caught her walking away.
She came home with leftovers in her lunchbox or other complaint almost every day, and that
day was also no different.
“Who can help me to change my daughter ” Hannah wondered
Hannah never believed in raising her voice or raising her arm on Amy or on anyone for that matter. She believed and wished that her love and patience would one day change Amy.
One day a new family moved into Amy's apartment. They were very friendly people. They wanted to acquaint(使.....熟悉)themselves with all the neighbors, so their little girl, Mary, was sent all around the neighborhood to find friends. Soon, Mary came to Amy's home.
It didn't take much time for Mary to understand Amy. However, she was not put off by Amy's behavior. She knew that she needed to help Amy to change. She told Amy an idea that her teacher had once told the class in her previous school. “Blow a balloon whenever you're angry or upset about something or someone."
At first Amy did not listen to Mary, but Hannah tried her best to tell her that it was fun and brought her a pack of balloons.
That day, Amy wanted to play a guessing game with her mother, but Hannah wanted to finish
her chores in the kitchen first. Amy got angry.

What science brings to us
Science and technology have greatly changed our life in many aspects. For instance, not only can we try on new clothes in the virtual reality but we’re capable to live a comfortable and healthy life with the help of wearable tech. Moreover, astronomers can walk in space while doctors might cure a patient thousands of miles away.
Personally, I think the development of science and technology will go far beyond our imagination. It will surely bring more significant changes to us.
第二节
One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
She remembered what Mary told her and thought she would give it a try. Amy dashed into her room, found the balloons and picked one out with an overwhelming sense of anger. Thinking about her mother's refusal, Amy spared no effort to blow the balloon. Suddenly, the balloon exploded with a bang, making her numb with shock. It occurred to her that she should stop complaining but stay optimistic, or she would end up exploding like the balloon one day. An overwhelming sense of shame almost swallowed her and pushed her to make a change.
Paragraph 2:
Amy is a changed person now. Amy changes her attitude completely. Actually, instead of complaining about everything, she begins to appreciate her life and friends. What set Amy apart is that she volunteers to spread the function of blowing balloons in her community. She wants to do something for her neighborhood just like what Mary did for her. Her anger is well controlled even without a balloon. She is willing to take others' suggestions into consideration, contributing to her better behavior. Instead of losing her temper all the time, she is now a polite and thoughtful girl with contagious enthusiasm.
