Do you know what you’d like to be when you grow up It takes most people many years to find out. For the young artist Alexandra Nechita, it never really seemed to be a question. From the day she got down to painting at the age of two, she was an artist. Alexandra Nechita was born in Romania in 1985 and moved to California when she was still a baby. As a little child, she loved colouring in her colouring books. Her parents hoped she could spend more time playing with other children, so they took away her colouring books. Alexandra began drawing her own pictures and colouring them in.
By the time Alexandra was seven years old, she had begun painting with oil paints. When Alexandra took a local art class, her teacher was amazed at the young artist’s unusual style of painting. Alexandra’s work was similar in some ways to the paintings by famous artists like Picasso. These artists did not use a realistic style of painting. She just cannot imagine doing anything else that would bring her such joy and satisfaction.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. It is absolutely the case in Turkey where garbage collectors started collecting books that have been thrown away and ended up opening a library.
It started when garbage man Durson Ipek found a bag of abandoned books when he was working and then it snowballed from there. Ipek and other garbage men started gathering the books they found on the streets that were ready for landfills(垃圾填埋地) and as their collection started to grow, so did word of mouth. Soon, local residents started donating books directly. The library was initially available only to the garbage employees and their families to use but as the collection grew, so did public interest and the library was opened to the public in 2017.
“On the one hand, there were those who were leaving these books on the streets. On the other hand, others were looking for these books,” Ankaya mayor Alper Tasdelen told CNN. “We started to discuss the idea of creating a library from these books. When everyone supported it, this project happened.”
All the books that are found are sorted and checked for condition. If they pass, they go on the shelves. Today, the library has over 6,000 books that range from fiction to nonfiction and there’s a very popular children’s section that even has a collection of comic books. An entire section is devoted to scientific research and there are also books available in English and French. The collection has grown so large that the library loans books to schools and educational programs.
“Village school teachers from all over Turkey are requesting books,” Tasdelen told CNN. The government has to hire a full-time employee to manage the library.
This library is incredibly popular. It is frequently filled with the children of the city’s workers and students from nearby schools. There is a waiting room set up for readers and chess boards for the people who visit the library. You can even enjoy a cup of tea in the waiting room.

Four “amateur(业余的) astronauts” are about to launch into orbit in another landmark mission for space tourism. It’s the latest flight to help open up access to space for paying customers. The trip has been paid for by US billionaire businessman Jared Isaacman, who will travel with three crewmates(机组同事). A healthcare worker, a science educator and a data analyst will circle the Earth with Mr. Isaacman for three days. They hope to inspire others with their adventure and to raise money for children’s cancer medicine. Accordingly, the mission has been named Inspiration 4.
The crew’s Dragon vehicle, made by Elon Musk’s company Space X, will ride a Falcon-9 rocket. It is due to launch from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center at 20:02 EDT on Wednesday, or very shortly after. The spacecraft will reach an altitude of 575km, which is about 150km higher than the International Space Station (ISS). The four will then spend their time doing experiments and looking at Earth through a large domed(圆顶状的) window which offers panoramic views of the whole planet.
The mission follows hot on the heels of Sir Richard Branson’s flight aboard his Virgin Galactic rocket plane on 11 July, and fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos’s trip to space nine days later in the New Shepard vehicle. The glass dome has been fitted in place of the mechanism that Dragon normally uses to dock(对接) with the ISS, which isn’t needed on this flight.
In the 60 years since Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin first went into space, fewer than 600 people have followed in his footsteps, and most of those have been military-trained personnel flying on government-sponsored missions. Inspiration 4 is different. It’ll be a fully commercially purchased and operated orbital flight. NASA helped fund the development of a lot of the technology used by Elon Musk’s company, and did so to try
to diversify the economy in low-Earth orbit.
32. Why is the mission called Inspiration 4 according to paragraph 1
A. To promote the space tourism industry.
B. To highlight the huge expenses of the space trip.
C. To claim the commercial benefits of space adventures.
D. To inspire people and collect money for medical treatment.
33. What can we learn about the great mission
A. Its crew members are mostly military trainees.
B. The launch schedule is to be further confirmed.
C. It is to be made nine days after Jeff Bezos’ space trip.
D. A glass dome will be fitted to replace the mechanism to join the ISS.
34. What is the function of the “large domed window” according to paragraph 2
A. It ensures the success of the mission.
B. It enables the crew to observe surrounding planets.
C. The crew can get a full view of the earth through it.
D. The crew can take advantage of it to do experiments.
35. What is the passage mainly about
A. A commercially paid orbital flight.
B. The diversity of space exploration.
C. The development of space technology.
D. A space tour on government-sponsored missions.

Living in the shadow of my two elder sisters at college who already had their lives planned out since they were little, I was always undecided about everything. As a teenager, I was fickle(反复无常的). I would like one thing for a week and then hate it the next. But I was constantly searching for the beginning of the rainbow.
Changing my dream from a vet to an astronaut. I thought there were various options available to me. However, my parents would shake their heads and repeatedly asked me such questions as, “Why can’t you be more like your sisters What are you going to do with your life Aren’t you interested in anything at all ” After a couple of shrugs(耸肩), my parents usually stopped talking. I was not sure whether they gave up or anticipated(预见) my dull reactions. I often responded, “I couldn’t answer all of your questions now.”
Actually, my parents just had high expectations that never seemed to be fulfilled. Plus, like other parents, they just wanted to give the best to me and expected me to achieve success. The arguments with my parents seemed childish. One day, my mother made her thoughts clear. “Your grades aren’t high enough. No schools are going to you, dear. We didn’t pay so much money for nothing.” Hesitating for a while, I said. “No matter what you say, I believe I will enter a good college.” Still, I let my emotions control myself.
Certainly, I had never planned not to go to college. After another debate with my mom, I decided to make a change. No longer would I sit back and let my parents mistake me for a bad boy. It was time to take action.
I knew it was a crucial(关键的) year at high school. Releasing my feelings, I began to collect all the knowledge I had learned and review it with all my heart. I didn’t argue with my parents any more, but instead turned to my sisters for help and tried my best to study. Finally, I took the national college entrance examination with ease and confidence.

第二节
A few days later, I received a call from my school, saying my college acceptance letter had arrived. A bright smile spread across my face, I couldn’t wait to share it with my parents and sisters. After they learned about this satisfactory result, a sense of joy and happiness swept over them. “Congratulations. We are really happy and proud of you.” Touched deeply and feeling a lump in my throat, we, hugged each other. Dating back on my senior high, I’m really grateful for my change and effort. The next day, the warm breeze blowing my face on my way to school, I finally got that envelope.
My parents excitedly said behind me, “Well, open the envelop.” My pulses beat fast, and the blood warmed and excited every inch of my body. Opening the envelope, I found the admission notice. The notice shone brightly under the lights, reflecting the excited tears in my eyes. I said to my parents proudly “I made it!” They smiled with relief. It was my perseverance and determination not to give up that helped me get the admission notice. The sun shines on my face and I became my own rainbow.
