Pop art, which emerged in the 1950s and rose in popularity throughout the 1960s, sought to challenge the idea of fine art.
Andy Warhol (1928-1987)
Andy Warhol is probably the most influential figure of Pop Art. He became a famous celebrity himself. Understanding “star-culture”, advertisement and the effect of the media, he made these the core of his work.
His screen-printed images of Marilyn Monroe, Soup cans, and sensational newspaper stories, quickly became synonymous (同义词) with Pop art. .
Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997)
Roy Lichtenstein is one of the fathers of the Pop Art movement. In November 2015, Christie's sold Lichtenstein's “Nurse” for a record $95. 4 million. In this piece, as well as in other works, we can see how the enlarged imagery of adverts and comics with recognizable characters, highlights the ironic (讽刺好笑的) images and situations in every-day life.
Mimmo Rotella (1918-2006)
Italian artist Mimmo Rotella, was one of the most important figures of post-war European art. He combined pieces of adverts and posters in his works. For this technique he used a series of tom posters, gathering them to create a tremendously expressive and powerful acsthetic (美学) . His works Sempre lei Marilyn (2002) and Viva Amcrica (1963) are easy to recognize.
James Rosenquist (1933-2017)
James Rosenquist can be considered one of the strongest and most influential modem Pop Art artists. His work dived deep into cinematography and advertising. He employed techniques which are conventionally used to create Commercial Art. His works appear as an overwhelming mixture of fragmented (成碎片的) images of current celebrities, everyday objects and popular foods-giant lipsticks or spaghetti. If you go to Centre Pompidou, Paris, you can see his work President-Elect.
21. What artwork will you turn to if you are interested in Andy Warhol
A. Marilyn Monroe. B. Nurse. C. Viva America. D. President-Elect.
22. Which artist creates his works by putting together cut and tor posters
A. Andy Warhol. B. Roy Lichtenstein.
C. Mimmo Rotella D. James Rosenquist.

As the world locked down a year ago, people searched for a way to stay healthy and socially distant. Like me, they found it on a bicycle. Countries from South Africa to Italy saw bike sales increase sharply. A market research company reported the U. S. had a 121 percent increase for the year in leisure bike sales. And when this rapid rise in bicycle travel became apparent last spring, cities and countries around the world rushed to accommodate two-wheeled travelers.
Some countries, like France, began providing biking subsidies (补贴) to citizens for repairs of up to 50
euros in assigned bike shops, and many city governments around the world began expanding basic facilities for cycling. London, Brussels, and Bogota all saw new bike lanes added to main roads and reduced speed limits for the cars driving alongside them.
Even in countries where governments were slower to promote biking during the pandemic, citizens started biking anyway. Bike activists in these countries petitioned governments to expand biking facilities, while many more citizens began cycling on streets without bike lanes to avoid mass public transport lines. The cyclists of
these countries showed that while government support helped to grow the bike boom to an extent, the real fuel for it came from individuals themselves.
While many of these riders were using their bikes as an alternative commute to get to work, seek healthcare, or tend to other essential needs, others bought bicycles simply for a safe and fun way to explore their home cities and countries outdoors. Before the beginning of the pandemic, bicycle travel in itself had a strong appeal, offering a large number of benefits to travelers.
“It was a way to get exercise, a way to connect with your surroundings more,” says Jim Taylor, a sport psychologist and consultant to USA Triathlon. “You really can't enjoy your surroundings when you're going70 mph.” Those long-standing benefits of bike travel were further enlarged by the challenges and stresses of the pandemic, driving more people into biking this past year.
24. What is the second paragraph mainly about
A. The popularity of two-wheeled travel.
B. The ways to reduce speed limits of cars.
C. Some governments' efforts to improve road conditions.
D. Some countries' contributions to the rise of bike travel.
25. What does the underlined word “petitioned” probably mean in Paragraph 3
A. Reminded. B. Commanded C. Requested. D. Motivated.
26. What can we learn from Paragraph 4
A. Many riders used bicycles as a means of transportation.
B. Bicycle travel was not popular at all before the pandemic.
C. Some people bought bicycles for a convenient way to explore outdoors.
D. More people chose bicycle travel than drive travel during the pandemic.
27. What is Jim's attitude towards bike travel
A. Objective. B. Pessimistic. C. Favorable. D. Indifferent.

A study has found that a surprising number of top websites are collecting data you have entered— such as passwords or email addresses in a sign-up process you then do not complete— even if you haven't hit submit.
Researchers from KU Leuven, Radboud University, and the University of Lausanne looked at the top 100,
000 websites. In order to find out whether access to online forms is misused by online trackers, the team searched through the websites, while browsing as if they were from the US and the EU. Top sites where email addresses are leaked to tracker domains, the study says, include USA Today and the Independent, though these issues at the two websites have been settled.
The sites themselves don't necessarily use the data but they may be used by third-party companies. Fifty-two sites were found to be collecting data before anyone had hit submit, including the Russian domain of Toyota and Russian tech giant Yandex.
“If there's a Submit button on a form, the reasonable expectation is that it does something— that it will submit your data when you click it,” James, researcher in Radboud University's digital security group Gunes Acar told Wired. “We were super surprised by these results. We thought maybe we were going to find a few hundred websites where your email is collected before you submit, but this went beyond our expectations by far.”
In a follow-up study, they discovered that Meta and TikTok “collect substantial personal information from web forms even when the user docs not submit the form and does not give agreement”.
In March 2022, they ran further crawls of websites, in which their robot would enter email and password information, and then click on something to take them away from the website without hitting submit. The idea was to see if that information made its way back to Meta and TikTok's Automatic Advanced Matching, which collected personal data identifiers.
28. What can we know about the Independent
A. Its users are from US.
B. Its users' email addresses were once let out.
C. Its online forms were easy to browse.
D. Its network security issues remain unsolved.
29. Who is most likely to take advantage of the users' personal information data
A. Yandex. B. Gunes Acar. C. USA Today D. third-party companies
30. What did the researchers find unexpected
A. Top sites are collecting users' data after they hit submit.
B. Top sites voluntarily gave out users' email addresses.
C. Top sites are selling users' data to make profits.
D. Top sites are collecting users' data even without their submission.
31. What is the purpose of the text
A. To advertise some websites.
B. To provide information about email addresses.
C. To Introduce a research result about information security.
D. To suggest some ways to protect personal information.
D
Hearwaves in the U. S. and floods in western Europe have dominated the news cycle recently, forcing us to re-examine the relationship between climate change and extreme weather. Other catastrophes are going unnoticed.
In the past week, 380, 000 people have been evacuated due to floods in China's Henan province, 30 villages in Uganda were affected as rivers overflowed and 25 people died in landslides after Mumbai was hit by big storms. Temperatures in Turkey and North Africa approached 50℃, while South Africa and Brazil froze. Siberia is battling wildfires again. Finland experienced 31 continued days with maximum temperatures above 25℃, the longest heatwave ever recorded in the country. In Iran, the hottest summer in decades has led to water shortages that in turn caused protests in the country's southwest.
All these disasters are part of a series of extreme weather events that paint a picture of a world that's already warmed 1. 2℃ from pre-industrial times. There's no doubt that It will get warmer.
The global climate is out of balance, German meteorologist Johannes Quaas said In an interview last week.
Our climate's reaction to greenhouse gas emissions isn't immediate. The warming and resulting weather events that we see today are a reaction to emissions that entered the atmosphere decades ago.
Scientists estimate that, even if we meet global emissions reduction goals, the planet will continue to warm after that. That will take the planet to somewhere between 1. 5℃ to 2℃ above pre-industrial times by the end of the century. While their warming predictions have been correct in the past, there's no way to be absolutely sure when temperatures will stop rising. because the experiment we're running on the planet has never been attempted before.
Death, violence and destruction are all signs of humanity's struggle to adapt to a changing climate. “It seems like there's something in human nature that makes us be behind the events, and not ahead,” said Hans-Otto Portner. an adviser to the German government on climate and the environment. “Maybe that's because the nature of unprecedented events is that we can't imagine what's coming.”
32. How is the second paragraph of the article developed
A. By making comparisons. B. By giving examples.
C. By presenting research results. D. By analyzing the facts.
33. What can be inferred from Paragraphs 3 and 4
A. Temperatures won't necessarily continue to rise.
B. Extreme weather contributes to disasters to some degree.
C. Scientists can effectively control climate changes.
D. Climate's response to greenhouse gas emission is quick.
4. What will scientists agree with according to the text
A. Global emissions reduction target will be soon met. B. Temperatures have risen by 2 C up to now.
C. Global warming will undoubtedly continue. D. Temperatures will stop rising for sure.
35. Where is the text most likely from
A. A guidebook. B. A science fiction. C. A newspaper. D. A feature story.

Despite being one of the most famous and frequented attractions in the United States, 36 Here are a few facts about the Grand Canyon you probably don't know.
We don't really know how old it is
It has long been believed that the Colorado River began carving the Grand Canyon about 6 million years ago, 37 It suggests that the process may have begun as far back as 70 million years. In all likelihood, the Grand Canyon as we know it today started out as a series of smaller canyons 70 million years ago, but the majority of the canyon did not begin to take shape until much more recently. 38
Of all Grand Canyon facts, this one is pretty cool— no word-play intended. Sudden changes in altitude have an enormous impact on temperature and rainfall, so the weather you are experiencing could differ dramatically, depending on where you are in the Grand Canyon. The-coldest, wettest weather station in the region is the Bright Angel Ranger Station on the North Rim, while the hottest (and one of the driest) is just 8 miles away at Phantom Ranch.
There are lots of fossils in the area
While the dinosaur might have missed out on seeing the Grand Canyon, lots of other fossils have been found. 39 . They vary from ancient marine fossils dating back 1. 2 billion years to fairly recent land mammals that left their remains in canyon caves about 10, 000 years ago.
Fish are relatively uncommon in the area
Prior to modem flood control measures, the Colorado River provided a uniquely difficult habitat for fish, with heavy mud with small rocks, frequent floods, and temperatures ranging from extreme heat in summer to sub-freezing in winter. Consequently, only eight fish species are native to the Grand Canyon, 40
A. but a 2012 study contained a real shocker.
B. and many other species are found outside this area.
C. and six of them are found nowhere outside of the Colorado River.
D. The weather in the Grand Canyon is really cool.
E. This indicates that other creatures frequented the location.
F. The Grand Canyon creates its own weather.
G. Grand Canyon National Park still holds some surprises.

In the 2010s, 34-year-old Miller travelled around the world as a marine biologist. However remote the location, she made the same alarming discovery: amounts of plastic littering the water and 41 marine life. Miller knew she needed to do something.
Her group called A Greener Future estimates that 33 percent of what they 42 comes from food packaging after organizing litter clean-ups across Canada. If food 43 were a country, it would be the third largest producer of greenhouse gases. Miller, determined to tackle the problem at the source, envisioned a shop that 44 plastic bags and quit the bad habit of wasting food itself.
In 2018, Miller opened one of the first zero-waste grocery stores in Canada, with her mission 45 the emphasis on sustainability. She named it Nada, and ensured everything was designed to make the zero-waste shopping experience 46 to practise. For instance, the caf6 uses food items 47 their expiry date (失效日期) to make baked goods, soups and more. Miller buys from some 115 small local companies. The suppliers must be 48 of a social or environmental responsibility, and just as importantly, they must be 49 to reducing waste in their own supply chain.
Because food sales were 50 in pandemic, Nada closed its doors to the public for 18 months. 51 as the business was, Miller developed online ordering and delivery in a sustainable way. Carbon-free deliveries are made by e-bike and electric vehicles. Everything from olive oil to fresh eggs comes 52 in upgraded containers, which are collected and reused again with the next deliveries.
Not only do those containers just reduce waste, but they get people thinking big, just as Miller had hoped. “They are labeled with Nada stickers, 53 you can see how many times the container has been used,” she says, with a 54 smile. “If you open someone's cupboard and see all of these Nada-branded containers, it's 55 to start a conversation.”

Most of us never forget the person that was there for us in our darkest times. Apparently, penguins (企鹅) don't either.
On a typical day, off the coast of a small Brazilian island, Joao Pereira de Souza headed out fishing He was disheartened to find that an oil leak had polluted the waters. Staring out at the oily waves, he decided it was not a good day to fish. But walking on the beach that day, he found a struggling penguin, covered in oil and starving.
Joao took the penguin home, and spent a whole week gently cleaning it and nursing it back to health. He named it Dindim, a Portuguese word meaning “ice pop”. Dindim is a Magellanic penguin, a species known for living in the seas of South America. In order to breed (繁殖) , they must return to Patagonia, 5, 000 miles from Joao's home.
After a week of rehabilitation (康复) , Joao patiently took Dindim back to the sea and taught it how to swim again. When Dindim could swim quite well, Joao took it out into the sea by boat and dropped it off to encourage it to swim back to its home. But when he was back to shore, he found the penguin waiting for him. Joao made two more attempts later, but each time the bird would just return to Joao's home. It seemed that Dindim had already formed a family bond with Joao and wouldn't leave.
Joao had no choice but to keep the little creature. During the following months, Dindim would follow behind Joao to fish on the coast joyfully. Dindim also liked to lie on Joao's lap, letting Joao give it showers, allowing Joao to feed it fish and to pick it up. Joao and his family enjoyed the company of Dindim. But deep inside Joao's heart, he knew Dindim belonged to the wild. Gradually, the hot summer days witnessed the change of its new feathers. Was it time to say “goodbye”

Dear Lucy,
I'm so glad that you're interested in the Chinese poet Li Bai, and I'd love to tell you what I know about him.
Li Bai is one of the most famous poets of the Tang Dynasty. His poems are so great that he's known as the “Poetic Genius”. In addition, his poems are full of romance and imagination, such as his most famous one, “A Tranquil Night”.
Li Bai loved freedom very much, which was reflected in his poems. What's more, he also loved to drink while he was creating poems, and it seemed that drinking was able to inspire him. That's what I know about Li Bai. Now do you know much more about him

【答案】
Suddenly one morning, Joao found the Dindim disappeared. He searched all through the house and the coast, and even rowed a boat to the ocean. But the penguin was nowhere to be found. Joao was relieved as he knew it was likely that Dindim had returned to its breeding area at its best condition. However, deep inside he was sad to realize Dindim, who he regarded as a family member, left for sure. Now when Joao went out fishing, he became alone. He was told Dindim would never return but he still held some hopes.
A few months later, Joao heard some familiar cries in his backyard. It was Dindim! The moment Joao turned around, Dindim hurried towards him and threw itself into his arms. It traveled 5, 000 miles from its breeding area to visit Joao! Happy tears sprang from Joao's eyes. He just held Dindim up like a baby, ready to bring its favourite fish. The later days saw the house full of laughter again. Since then, Joao has been receiving visits from his feathered friend every year. Human activities may threaten wildlife, but in the special case of Dindim, it was evident that a close relationship can be built between animals and humans.
