Xu Beihong was born in 1895 in Yixing, Jiangsu province. When he was only six, he began to learn the Chinese classic works and calligraphy under the direction of his father, who was a local portrait painter. At the age of nine, his father taught him art. His family was poor and at the age of eleven, young Xu had to leave home with his father and sell paintings to make a living. After several years, Xu achieved local success and recognition, but his father developed a serious illness and died shortly afterwards. Xu's early experiences of hardship and loss became the basis of the realism in his artistic creations.
In 1917, he went to Japan and studied art in Tokyo, and later, he was able to spend eight years studying art in Europe. He then returned to China to teach. After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Xu became president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and chairman of the Chinese Artists' Association.
Xu was primarily known for his Chinese ink paintings of horses and birds. However, his experiences in Europe drove his desire to create a new form of national art that combined the traditional Chinese paintings techniques with Western perspective and methods of composition to reflect a modern China. His talent and hard work led to the development of a new style of Chinese painting and an approach to art that is still taken by art institutions across China.

C.His boyhood experiences. D.His father's instructions.
25.What is the most distinctive feature of Xu's works

The Silk Road is arguably the most famous long-distance trade route of the ancient world. This passage connected Europe in the West with China in the East, and allowed the exchange of goods, technology, and ideas between the two civilizations. Although merchants could make huge profits travelling the road, it was not without risk.
The main Silk Road started in Chang’an (known today as Xi’an), the early Han capital. Travelers commencing their journey from this city could take a northern route that would take them across China’s northwestern provinces. After this, they would face the Gobi Desert, arguably the greatest danger of the Silk Road.
The Gobi Desert, the largest desert in Asia, consists mainly of rocky, hard earth. This feature made it easier for traders to travel across, compared to sandy deserts like the neighboring Taklamakan Desert. Like other deserts, the Gobi Desert is dry and hot, and therefore the biggest challenge travelers faced was obtaining enough water for themselves as well as for their camels.
So, rest stops were created along the route, allowing travelers to rest, eat and drink. These places also promoted the exchange of goods, and even ideas, amongst the travelers who stopped there. Usually, the rest stops were placed within a day’s journey of each other. In this way, travelers could avoid spending too much time in the desert, which would make them targets for robbers, another danger of the Silk Road.
Once through the Gobi Desert, travelers would continue their journey into Iran, Turkey, and finally Europe. Whilst this part of the journey may have been less dangerous, it is not entirely without its perils.
28. The underlined word “it” in the first paragraph refers to _____.
A. making huge profits B. traveling the Silk Road
C. exchanging goods and ideas D. connecting different civilizations
29. Why was the Gobi Desert easier to cross than other deserts
A. The desert’s surface was easier to walk on.
B. Camels for transportation were easier to find.
C. It was smaller and could be crossed in less time.
D. There were more natural water sources available.
30. What can we guess about the rest stops in the Gobi Desert
A. Travelers were offered free accommodation.
B. They were located around the edges of the desert.
C. Travelers’ staying there were often attacked by criminals.
D. They were shared by travelers from different countries.
31. What is the passage mainly about
A. The origins of the Silk Road.
B. The benefits of the Silk Road.
C. The difficulties faced by Silk Road travelers.
D. The cultural exchanges among Silk Road travelers.

From self-driving cars to carebots (care+robots) for elderly people, rapid development in technology has long represented a potential threat to many jobs normally performed by people. But experts now believe that almost 50 percent of occupations existing today will be completely unnecessary by 2025 as artificial intelligence continues to change businesses.
“The next fifteen years will see a revolution in how we work, and a revolution will necessarily take place in how we plan and think about workplaces,” said Peter Andrew, Director of Workplace Strategy for CBRE Asia Pacific.
A growing number of jobs in the future will require creative intelligence, social skills and the ability to use artificial intelligence.
The report is based on interviews with 200 experts, business leaders and young people from Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. It shows that in the US technology already destroys more jobs than it creates.
But the report states: “Losing occupations does not necessarily mean losing jobs — just changing what people do.” Growth in new jobs could occur as much, according to the research.
“The growth of 20 to 40 person companies that have the speed and technological know-how will directly challenge big companies,” it states.
A report by Pew Research found 52 percent of experts in artificial intelligence and robotics were optimistic about the future and believed there would still be enough jobs in the next few years. The optimists pictured “a future in which robots do not take the place of more jobs than they create,” according to Aaron Smith, the report's co-author.
“Technology will continue to affect jobs, but more jobs seem likely to be created. Although there have always been unemployed people, when we reached a few billion people there were billions of jobs. There is no shortage of things that need to be done and that will not change,” Microsoft's Jonathan Grudin told researchers.
32.We can infer from the text that in the future ________.
A.people will face many difficulties
B.people will take up more creative jobs
C.artificial intelligence will threaten people's lives
D.most jobs will be done in traditional workplaces
33.According to the report, ________.
A.people won't necessarily lose jobs
B.big companies will face fewer challenges
C.small companies will win against big companies
D.most people will become interested in technology
34.What is the attitude of most experts in artificial intelligence and robotics to the future
A.Mixed B.Worried C.Doubtful D.Optimistic
35.Jonathan Grudin's words in the last paragraph suggest that ________.
A.there will be enough jobs for people
B.things will change a lot in a few years
C.many people will become unemployed
D.technology will totally change future jobs

Dear Peter,
I am more than delighted to hear from you. You have asked me about the nationwide activity“save food and combat waste”. Let me introduce it to you in detail.
As we all know, eating is an important part in our daily life. However, people waste food without even realizing it. Besides, our resources are limited because of the growing population, which makes it urgent to save food. Faced with the serious situation, it is high time that we took action immediately. To begin with, when we have dinner out in a restaurant, remember to order appropriately and clean the plate. In addition, we held various activities to remind citizens of the importance of the food. For example, posters are made to promote food saving actions.
Above is some information about the activity. Looking forward to your reply.
