One early morning, I went into the living room to find my mother reading a thick book called Best Loved Poems to Read Again and Again. I became immediately interested because of the word “Poems” that appeared in big, hot pink letters.
“Is it good ” I asked her.
“Yeah,” she answered. “There’s one I really like and you’ll like it, too.” I leaned forward.
“Patty Poem,” she read the title. Who is Patty I wondered. The poem began:
She never puts her toys away,
Just leaves them scattered① where they lay, … ①
The poem was just three short sections. The final one came quickly:
When she grows and gathers poise②, ②稳重
I’ll miss her harum-scarum③ noise, ③
And look in vain④ for scattered toys. ④
And I’ll be sad.
A terrible sadness washed over me. Whoever Patty was, she was a mean girl. Then, the shock.
“It’s you, honey,” my mother said sadly.
To my mother, the poem described a parent’s feeling when her child grows up and leaves. To me, the “she” in the poem was terrible. It was my mama who would be sad. It was so terrible that I began crying.
“What’s wrong ” my mother asked.
“Oh Mama,” I cried. “I don’t want to grow up ever!”
She smiled. “Honey, it’s okay. You’re not growing up anytime soon. And when you do, I’ll still love you, okay ”
“Okay,” I was still crying. My fear had gone. But I could not help thinking about that silly poem. After what seemed like a safe amount of time, I read the poem again and was confused. It all fit so well together, like a puzzle. The language was simple, so simple that I could plainly understand its meaning, yet it was still beautiful. I was now crazy about the idea of poetry (诗歌), words that had the power to make or break a person’s world.
I have since fallen in love with other poems, but “Patty Poem” remains my poem. After all, “Patty Poem” gave me my love for poetry not because it was the poem that lifted my spirits, but because it was the one that hurt me the most.
24. Why was the writer attracted by the book Best Loved Poems to Read Again and Again
A. It has a meaningful title.
B. It was a thick enough book.
C. Something on its cover caught her eye.
D. Her mother was reading it with interest.
25. The writer’s mother liked to read “Patty Poem” probably because ______.
A. it was a sign of her own childhood
B. it was written in simple language
C. it was written by a famous poet
D. it made her think of what would happen
26. What does the underlined word probably mean
A. Easily . B. Hardly. C. Nearly. D. Narrowly.
27. It can be known from the passage that “Patty Poem” leads the writer to ______.
A. discover the power of poetry B. recognize her love for puzzles
C. find her wishing to grow up D. experience great homesickness

There are many ways to travel within a city. We can walk, cycle, or take a bus. But no matter which way we travel, we have to stick to the route (线路) the city planners laid down for us.
Parkour practitioners (跑酷爱好者), however, see the city in a completely different way. To them, there are no fixed routes. There are no walls and no stairs — since they jump, climb, roll and crawl to move across, through, over and under anything that they find in their path. The city is their playground.
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has noticed that this activity is drawing more and more people to it — there are 100,000 people taking part in parkour today in the UK alone, according to The Guardian — and how it is helpful for people to be much stronger: It trains coordination (协调性) and balance. So the organization is thinking about recognizing parkour as a new sport and adding it to the Olympics by 2024.
But parkour practitioners themselves don’t seem to be happy with the idea. “They see parkour as a lifestyle,” wrote the website NextSportStar. “It’s a competition against the conditions rather than just a sport.”
“Indeed, many do parkour just to escape the daily routine (常规) and experience the city in different ways,” wrote reporter Oli Mould on The Conversation. They see parkour as a way to express themselves through relaxing moves and creative routes while freeing themselves from the pressure.
It’s great that the FIG wants to develop a new sport and stay close to a new cultural form. But it would be greater if they knew that not everything in life is a competition.
28. How do the parkour practitioners do parkour
A. They move on as they wish. B. They plan the way in advance
C. They run faster than others. D. They stick to certain routes.
29. Why does the FIG want to add parkour to the Olympics
A. It’s a special way of life.
B. It draws their attention.
C. It’s good for people to keep healthy.
D. It needs some rules and instructions.
30. What do parkour practitioners think of parkour
A. It is more formal than other sports.
B. It is a creative way of life.
C. It’s worth adding to the sporting event.
D. It calls on people to work as a team.
31. What is the best title for the passage
A. A new sports competition B. Parkour practitioners
C. Training in a different way D. Making the city their own
D
When you think of insects (昆虫), the first word that comes to mind probably won’t be “edible (可食用的)”. Surprisingly, what you may consider an insect may sound like a great meal to another. In Africa and the Middle East, insects such as grasshoppers and mealworms are a common dish. Many Asians also like eating insect dishes.
The idea of replacing (代替) pork, chicken, or beef with insects might sound unpleasant, but eating these small insects can be beneficial to both yourself and the environment.
There are over 2,100 types of edible insects in the world. Many of the insects that are eaten by humans are quite nutritious And they can be eaten in different ways: roasted over an open fire, freeze-dried, or cooked. In fact, insects can be added to various foods, and we likely won’t even notice the difference.
The biggest advantage is that the cost of raising insects is very pared to cows, insects produce eight times fewer carbon emissions (碳排放物) and need six times less water to keep.
To add to that, insects can be fed with waste products. Insect waste can also be repurposed into soil fertilizer (土肥). And unlike traditional farms which take up about 80% of all farming land, insect farms are relatively small and can save space for other uses.
All this makes insect farms more profitable, with little wastage of money and resources.
As our world’s population increases towards 9 billion by 2050, traditional farming will not be enough to meet its growing food needs.
Some companies have already begun experimenting with insects in their food products. Mealworm burger patties, protein powder, and gummy sweets are just a few of the new food creations. And a few months ago, the European Union (EU) said yes to insects for human consumption (食用)!
32. What can we learn about insect eating
A. It’s popular in Africa. B. It’s liked by the author.
C. It’s unpleasant for Asians. D. It’s accepted by few people.
33. What is the advantage of insect farming over traditional farming
A. It is simpler. B. It costs less.
C. It requires no skills. D. It needs no manpower.
34. Which of the following statements might the author agree with
A. Insects will replace beef in hamburgers by 2050.
B. Insects will be humans’ major food choices by 2050.
C. Insects will help meet the growing food needs of humans.
D. Insects will become more nutritious with modern farming.
35. What is the EU’s attitude towards insects becoming humans’ food choices
A. Uncaring. B. Thankful.
C. Supportive. D. Doubtful.

Stomach flu (肠胃炎) is one of the most unpleasant of the common diseases.
36 That’s especially true if someone in your family has it. But there are some things you can do to avoid catching it.
You can prevent stomach flu by washing your hands often. Use hot water and soap, and spend time scrubbing (擦洗). Using hand sanitizer (消毒杀菌剂) is better than nothing, but it doesn’t work well against stomach flu. 37
The virus (病毒) that causes stomach flu is hard to kill. Normal cleaners won’t always get rid of it. But cleaning your house can stop you from catching it. So mix bleach (漂白剂) with water, and use that to clean surfaces. 38
39 For example, dishwashers are better at killing viruses than washing dishes by hand, because they keep dishes hotter for longer. Besides, many viruses can live in your washing machine. So wash clothes with hot water and use bleach, if possible. You may even want to run the washing machine with no clothes, just hot water and bleach.
Once you’re feeling better, don’t return to work or school right away. 40 If you had a fever, wait at least 24 hours after it ends before going out. This will help protect other people from getting sick.
A. Hot water is helpful in killing viruses.
B. You probably won’t want to eat much.
C. It spreads easily, which can make it hard to avoid.
D. By following these tips, you can help stop it from spreading.
E. That’s because hand sanitizer mostly kills bacteria, not viruses.
F. You can still spread the disease for a few days after you feel better.
G. If someone in your family is sick, clean things that person has touched.

I was at home the night before my new school when Mom came into my room. She sat on my bed, and patted me on the shoulder. Then she handed me a small box. “Take this. Don’t tell your father ... Now, study hard, okay ” she said softly.

“It’s from my own savings. Your father doesn’t know.” I sat alone for a long time with my new MP3, weeping (哭泣) silently.

To fully enjoy these benefits, here are some tips. First, choose the sport that interests you most and suits you best. Second, find some partners. That way, it’s more likely that you’ll exercise regularly.
I do hope everyone will enjoy sports and live a healthy life.
One afternoon,I was in my dorm when a classmate told me that my father was waiting for me downstairs. I rushed out of the door, ran downstairs anxiously, and saw my father standing there. At the sight of me, he managed an embarrassed smile and handed me a box, saying, “Son, I bought this for you since I overheard that it’s an efficient device for study. You will treasure it and use it for a good purpose, won’t you …” Swallowing the rest words, he just turned around and left for work hurriedly Seeing him off, I dragged my legs to my dorm with the small box in hand.
I sat down and unwrapped the box. Gasping in astonishment, I found a totally brand new MP3 inside. It was neatly packed and the price tag was still attached. I gazed at it for a while, tears in eyes. The tired faces and weathered hands of my parents appeared before my eyes. How could I repay them After putting the MP3 away carefully, I headed for the classroom determinedly. I knew no matter what challenges I met, my parents would always be there for me with their deep love and wholehearted support. I also knew the progress I made in my study was the best present for them.

I became immediately interested because of the word “Poems” that appeared in big, hot pink letters.
To my mother, the poem described a parent’s feeling when her child grows up and leaves.
I have since fallen in love with other poems, but “Patty Poem” remains my poem. After all, “Patty Poem” gave me my love for poetry not because it was the poem that lifted my spirits, but because it was the one that hurt me the most.
To them, there are no fixed routes. There are no walls and no stairs — since they jump, climb, roll and crawl to move across, through, over and under anything that they find in their path. 故选A。
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has noticed that this activity is drawing more and more people to it — there are 100,000 people taking part in parkour today in the UK alone, according to The Guardian — and how it is helpful for people to be much stronger: It trains coordination and balance. So the organization is thinking about recognizing parkour as a new sport and adding it to the Olympics by 2024.
They see parkour as a way to express themselves through relaxing moves and creative routes while freeing themselves from the pressure.
根据第二段Parkour practitioners (跑酷爱好者), however, see the city in a completely different way. To them, there are no fixed routes. There are no walls and no stairs—since they jump, climb, roll and crawl to move across, through, over and under anything that they find in their path. The city is their playground.
A。 In Africa and the Middle East, insects such as grasshoppers and mealworms are a common dish可知,在非洲和中东,昆虫菜肴很常见。
33. B。 The biggest advantage is that the cost of raising insects is very small, 和第五段中的insects can be fed with waste products ... insect farms are relatively small and can save space for other uses和第六段可知,饲养昆虫需水少、占地小且可使用不适合食用的食物等做饲料,不浪费资源。
And a few months ago, the European Union (EU) said yes to insects for human consumption可知,数月前,欧盟对人类食用昆虫表示赞同。say yes to 同意。
