How to Overcome Procrastination
Procrastination, may bring low grades and high levels of anxiety and guilt. It is high time that we overcame it.
The very first step is to reflect on the reasons why you postpone doing things constantly.Only by doing so can you truly begin to change your behavior. It is also a good choice to break big tasks into small manageable ones. This is because when a task is too overwhelming to tackle, procrastination often follows.Besides, keeping yourself motivated by promising yourself a reward might help.By practicing these methods, you will find it easier to get started on important tasks.
Ⅱ.概要写作
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
There's a big difference between working hard and being a workaholic.Working hard involves being organized, focused, getting a lot of work done, knowing when to stop, and having a life other than work.Workaholics,on the other hand, live entirely for work. They are often disorganized, always find reasons for working more, don't know how or when to relax, and can't communicate with family members.
Workaholics, like those who are constantly drunk, suffer from a controlling habit, partly because they are always full of enthusiasm for work, feeling lost without work to do.Besides, they sometimes develop their pattern of behaviour due to the environment they are in.Many companies encourage workaholism by rewarding loyal employees with higher pay and better benefits. Those unwilling to burn the midnight oil are at risk.
According to some psychologists, workaholism can be good for people to some extent. It can fuel a sense of self worth and achievement. They get paid for it and praised for it,which produces good feelings, they may not necessarily be able to obtain in other parts of their lives.Workaholism, though,is a problem that has been around for years. With competition rising these days, people ate under more stress. However, workaholics can't stand not being active. They find it hard to go on vacation. They're more comfortable being with fellow workers than with family and friends.Of course there is nothing wrong with their commitment, ambition and energy. But what is wrong is that these things often come in at a high price to their health and the happiness of their families.
To be a healthy person physically and psychologically, one should lead a balanced life. Those little things—reading mystery novels, playing volleyball, spending time with family and friends, playing with the dog, going fishing—mean a healthy end. They can be at least as rewarding as work.

(2023·深圳高三第二次调研考试)Wang Shuang was just five when her parents divorced, dropped her at her uncle's and left.Football,as it often is,became an escape.
At seven, she was spotted by coach Xu Yilong, who found Wang quick in her playful behaviour. As the only girl in the boys' team,Wang's performances were impressive, earning her the nickname “Iron Girl”.And soon, she sensed the sport's power.Football allowed her to“release herself”and realize“whatever happens, football never leaves you alone.”
However, life was never smooth sailing. The constant jibes(嘲讽)from some people, who always tried to push her down and destroy her hopes, affected her so deeply that she lost confidence.“They were saying I had no talent at all.Gradually,I felt really so.”Wang once wrote. But never did she stop playing. When she was called up to the national team, aged 17,Wang thought,“Me?Are you sure?” When a world famous club wanted to sign her,she was “excited that an excellent coach thought I was good.”It was only then that she felt confident in her abilities.“I felt recognized.Perhaps I had a bit of talent after all.”
Not any “bit of talent”; the genius is praised as China's once in a generation player.
China is a pioneer of women's football in Asia and has won the continental championship eight times, including seven straight titles between 1986 and 1999.That was their golden age.Gradually, though, the dynasty declined. It is hoped that Wang will inspire the women's football of the country to its former height.
Coaches are almost always hesitant to speak about individual players. But when coach Shui was asked about Wang before the match against Vietnam, she couldn't stop mentioning her influence on the team.Unfailingly performing on the big stage,Wang did not let her team down. When they lacked a quality ball, she delivered two high assists that finally led her team into the last four clash(四分之一决赛).
“Nobody knows how hard it was,”declared Wang after the match.“We overcame difficulties. We also showed our strong spiritual power.I am proud of my team.”

(2023·长沙新高考适应性考试)Currently,New Zealand's government announces it will help pay for poorer families to replace their old cars with cleaner hybrid(混合动力的)or electric ones. The government says it plans to spend $357 million on the test program.
The move is part of a wider plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions(排放物).Greenhouse gases are believed to cause warming temperatures in the Earth's atmosphere.New Zealand plans to provide aid for businesses to reduce emissions and have buses that run on environmentally safe fuel by 2035.The government also plans to provide food waste collection for most homes by 2030.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said in a statement,“We've all seen the recent reports on the sea level rise and its influence right here in New Zealand. We cannot leave the issue of climate change until it's too late to fix.”The plan is a step toward New Zealand's stated goal of reaching net zero(净零)carbon emissions by 2050.
Reaching net zero emissions means not creating more carbon in the atmosphere than oceans and forests can remove.Ardern said that reducing dependence on traditional fuels would help protect families from extreme price increases. The plan also sets a goal of reducing total car travel by 20 percent over the next 13 years. The programs will be paid for from a $2.8 billion climate emergency response fund.
Officials said that over time, money collected from polluters would pay for the programs rather than taxes from families. Some critics of the plan say it continued to be less restrictive on New Zealand's huge agriculture industry.Agriculture creates about half of the nation's total greenhouse gas emissions. But it is also important to the economy as the nation's biggest export earner.
David Seymour is the leader of New Zealand's ACT political party. He said that some of the announced programs were proven to be ineffective and had been tried and failed overseas.Seymour added that people should be able to choose how they reduce emissions through the market based emissions trading plan.

“May the force be with you!”If you are a StarWars fan, then you have probably heard this phrase many times.__16__ So many characters, devices, and phrases from the movie have become well known. But you might be surprised to find out how much this movie has changed how movies are made.
“A long time ago in a galaxy far,far away...”is how StarWars begins. Its plot was not ground breaking.__17__ The story was typical science fiction with lots of drama, traditional characters and good battling evil,in space and in hand to hand fight.
It was the special effects that made StarWars stand out from other movies.People still talk about the light swords(剑)that could cut, burn and melt through most substances.Spaceships sped through space and landed on huge, realistic looking space stations.__18__When StarWars first came out in 1977,most movie theaters were stand alone buildings, with just one movie screen.Using the money StarWars had made for them, movie theater owners built more theaters, leading to the multiplexes(多厅影院)that are common today.
Theaters needed more movies to show on all the additional movie screens and in all the new multiplexes. So new movie companies sprang up,including small ones creating experimental movies.__19__ Some of the methods became popular and others failed. But,thanks to StarWars, people got to see new types of movies.
__20__ There had been movie continuations previously, but they were often just poor imitations of the first movie. The StarWars movies were all popular. There have been two trilogies(三部曲)so far, with more planned.

17.解析:根据本段第一句中《星球大战》的开头语“A long time ago in a galaxy far,far away...”,并结合后面的traditional characters可知,该空应为过渡句,起承上启下的作用。结合各选项可知,B项“实际上,这部电影的故事情节相当过时”符合语境。
答案:B
18.解析:根据上文对《星球大战》特效的描述“the light swords(剑)that could cut, burn and melt through most substances.Spaceships sped through space and landed on huge, realistic looking space stations”可知,电影中的特效给观众留下了深刻印象。对比各选项可知,C项符合语境,即“影迷们从未看过这样的电影”。

The Harvestfest contest was falling on Friday and everyone in school was talking about it.All the students would show up in their self made costumes and a winner would be chosen by the principal.
“Do you have your costume for the Harvestfest contest?” Alice asked.“I'm going as a chocolate bar.My mom and I have been working on it all week.”
“Yeah,I have a costume,”said Jordan Eastman, popping up the two front wheels of his wheelchair as he waited for his dad to pick him up.“But it's boring.”
“Why?What is it?”Alice asked.
“MaxMag the superhero, but Danny,Tom and Izzy are all going as MaxMag too.”Jordan shook his head.“That's too many to stand a chance at winning the contest.”He waved to his dad,who had just pulled up in front of the school. Jordan rolled his wheelchair toward his dad,and Alice walked with him to the minivan.
“Maybe you should go as something else.”
“The contest is Friday night.” Jordan sighed.“It's too late to change costumes.”
“Jordan, you have to think outside the box.Look around your house and see what you have. There's hidden potential in everyday items.”She took a sip of her drink, and told Jordan that her chocolate bar costume was made from old fabric her mom had lying around and recycled plastics.
On his way home,Jordan was quiet. He kept thinking about Alice's words:Think outside the box. There's hidden potential in everyday items. When he got home,he found his mum handling with some wooden pieces. She was putting a new desk together. On top of the desk was the huge empty cardboard box the pieces had come in.Mom smiled at Jordan, pointing at the desk,“What do you think?”

Not only did the exciting game relieve the students' intense pressure, but their relationship with the teachers was also strengthened.

(2023·福州高三质检)The first time we set eyes on the“Big Red”,Dad,Mom and I were on our way home.As we passed the Eaton's department store's window,we stopped as usual to have a look and buy something that we wanted.
The beautifully decorated window display held the best toys ever. There were dolls much too pretty to play with. And they all lay beneath a surprisingly fantastic dress.Mom's eyes were glued to its shining red satin(缎子).
“My goodness,”she whispered.“Look at that! ” Then,Mom looked down at her own coat—she had worn the heavy grey wool coat every winter for as long as I could remember.Mom was forever doing chores—doing laundry, tending the pigs and working in the garden— so she always wore housedresses and an apron(围裙) to protect the front. Also, she managed to make almost all of our clothes. They weren't fancy, but they were comfortable.
“What a silly dress!”She shook her head.“Who on earth would want such a big dress?”As we continued down the street,Mom turned her head for one more look.“My goodness! You'd think they'd display something a person could use!”
Mother's Day was nearing, and the red dress was soon forgotten.Mother,of all people, was not one to spend money on items that were not practical.“There are things we need more than this.”She'd always say.Choosing a gift for Mother's Day for her was quite hard. When Dad and I asked, she thought carefully and then asked for some tea towels, facecloths or a new basin.
On our last trip to town before Mother's Day,we were driving up Main Street when Mom suddenly shouted in surprise:“Look!”She pointed excitedly as Dad drove past Eaton's.“That big red dress is gone,”she said in disbelief.“Who'd be fool enough to buy such a dress?”Mom questioned, shaking her head.I was almost certain that I noticed a trace of longing(一点渴望)in her voice.

(2023·济南高三模拟考试)The incident took place at Cheektowaga,a town in Erie County,New York,in the middle of a historic and dangerous snowstorm.I had gone out to visit my friend living in another county, but unfortunately,I got stuck and was unable to drive further.
I fully realized how dangerous this would be as there was not enough gas left in the truck for me to get through the deadly snowstorm. The situation got even worse in such a place without any houses in sight.
I stayed in my truck, calling for help anxiously but the weak signal didn't help me get connected. There was nothing I could do but wait.At midnight, there came a knock on the truck.I opened the door and surprisingly found an old lady standing in the storm with just a thin coat, clearly not enough to survive the snowstorm.I invited her to get inside my truck at once. She told me in a weak voice that her name was Mary and her car broke down. She had walked a long way before finding my truck.
Misfortune never came alone.Soon,we realized the air conditioner burned all the fuel in my truck and it was getting colder and colder inside the truck.Mary closed her eyes without saying a word, shaking in the corner.Considering Mary's condition,I decided to take action right now.Luckily, the GPS of my truck still worked. And with the help of GPS,I noticed that a school was nearby.I decided to take shelter in the school.Since Mary was too weak to move,I carried her on my back, heading to the school. After ten minutes' struggle in the snow,we finally arrived, but found the school gate locked.

(2023·广东揭阳四校联考高三二模)The Best Way to Nap
A study published in the journal Heart found a link between healthy napping(打盹)and a lowered risk of heart disease. The American Psychological Association points out that naps can improve memory, learning capacity and mood.Sara Mednick,PhD,a neuroscience at the University of California explains that when you fall asleep, your body moves through stages that each play a role in health.Ideal napping times are based around this four stage cycle.
Stage 1 the“dozing off”(打瞌睡)period
Stage 2 muscles, heart rate and brain activity slow down
Stage 3 deep,restorative sleep
Stage 4 REM(rapid eye movement)sleep, when brain activity increases and you're most likely to dream
The20 minutenap Between 20 and 30 minutes is one napping sweet spot, according to Mednick, who explains that you get enough Stage 2 sleep to switch your body and mind into full relaxation mode, aiding with memory.
The60 minutenap Stage 3 sleep is a time for your body to repair tissue, strengthen the immune(免疫)system and recharge energy stores. But waking up during this phase can make you feel uncomfortable and sleepy,Mednick says. Most people start to move out of Stage 3 after around 60 minutes, which makes it a good time to set your alarm.
The90 minutenap A complete sleep cycle is about an hour and a half, and napping for a full cycle can have big benefits. But naps longer than 90 minutes can disturb nighttime sleep and might even weaken memory.

[2023·广东大湾区普高毕业班联考(二)]My love for animals began through watching wildlife documentaries when I was a kid.I went on to study Environmental Science at university, and became interested in marine(海洋的) biology when I did my master's degree. That's when I realised that there was a possibility to do more for Hong Kong.
In Hong Kong, many people would associate marine life only with seafood, and few people would consider it as a part of nature to be appreciated.Although our marine life is highly diverse, our waters have been overfished for more than 40 years.Records show that, decades ago,Hong Kong had such high production of seafood that it supported about 90% of the local demand.Today,at least 90% of the seafood we eat has to be imported to meet local demand,as our waters are so overfished that they can no longer support the local appetite.
Despite this shift,we are still a city in love with seafood—according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,Hong Konng has the second highest annual seafood consumption per capita(人均)in Asia—but consumers are barely aware of where their seafood comes from and which species are threatened.
There is a lot of room for improvement in Hong Kong.Improving local fishery management policies and increasing the coverage of Marine Protected Areas,as well as conducting the relevant research to inform decisions, could move the city towards greater sustainability in this area. And consumers should avoid eating seafood that is on the threatened species list.As a general rule of thumb,if people are not sure what the species is,they should choose something else that they are more familiar with.
With the marine ecosystem already weak and easily destroyed, the greatest threat is continued ignorance and inaction. It is time for us to show that we can also be a part of the solution. If each person plays their part—even for just one meal a day—Hong Kong would already be on its way to making considerable progress towards sustainable seafood consumption.

(2023·济南高三模拟考试)There is nothing quite like enjoying the sights, sounds and culture of a city while tasting a cup of coffee outdoors. But it is not that enjoyable when heat waves sweep the city.An outdoor cooling system produced by Green Kinonko,an Israeli(以色列的)company, began to be tested in Tel Aviv. The sweltering city is a perfect place to try the new technology.
With global warming heating up the temperature,it will soon be too hot to sit outside in cafes. While outdoor cooling systems have existed for a while, most of them use some sort of water or a misting system to cool the air around them, consuming too much water and power. After two years of development, the perfect solution to the problem was found.“We have invented a new generation of air conditioners,” Green Kinonko's CEO Leizer said.
As Leizer introduced, the energy is from the pressure created between liquid nitrogen(氮)and gas nitrogen. When liquid nitrogen at -196 ℃ turns into gas,it produces a very strong pressure and the pressure is used to run a mechanical engine. It is the mechanical engine that slowly releases freezing nitrogen gas to cool down the air around it.
The technology is unique and amazing.Beyond the coolness of the concept,it also has other advantages. The work unit doesn't need to be power driven, and doesn't blow out harmful warm air as it works. As for the potential price,it will probably be no more expensive than any other air conditioner. In addition, the liquid nitrogen container will need to be replaced every seven to ten days, depending on usage. This makes it an affordable option for all sorts of businesses. The cooling system is expected to be on the market in 2024.

(2023·南京盐城市高三二模)Among my friends, one topic seems to dominate their conversations:bones. It makes sense, given that 20 percent of American women over 50 have osteoporosis(骨质疏松)and that more than half have bone loss. For men,the figures are lower:4 percent and a third.Worldwide, one out of three women over 50 and one out of five older men will develop a fracture(骨折).Another reason for the endless argument about bone problems is mass confusion over how to strengthen your bones best and whether diet really makes a difference.
Diet research is always messy, and study results on nutrition and bone health haven't been consistent.Butgraduallysomeclarityisemerging.As we draw up resolutions for what to eat,it's useful to look at new data on vitamin D.Calcium is the key element for building bones, and vitamin D helps to absorb calcium from the food we eat,so doctors often recommend D supplements(补充物)to make up for age related bone loss.
But a recent study found that taking D supplements for five years did not reduce the rate of fractures in seniors. That result built on earlier findings, led by the same team, that these supplements do not improve bone density(密度).“Food and sun exposure likely provide enough vitamin D for healthy adults,”says Meryl LeBoff, who led the study.
What does help maintain strong bones for all of us?The easy answer is food high in calcium, such as milk and tofu.“Getting it from food is best,”LeBoff says,“because there are so many other nutrients(营养物),and you have more continuous absorption than from D supplements.”
The other key element of bone health involves calories out rather than calories in.Weight bearing exercise stimulates bone formation throughout life.So while focusing on better nutritional choices, add more exercise to your daily menu.
【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文。一项研究表明服用补充维生素D五年并不能降低老年人的骨折率,但高钙食物和运动有助于增强骨骼健康。

[2023·广东省普高招生全国统一模拟测试(一)]Like any doctor,Jacques Fellay wants to give his patients the best care.Hidden inside our bodies are genetic(基因的)markers that can tell him which patients could probably have diseases such as AIDS and provide early treatments. However, there are worries for Fellay:they contain sensitive details that could lead to embarrassment, discrimination or even worse.
A new kind of encryption,Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE)(完全同态加密),is making it possible for data users to run multiple operations on genetic data without seeing the contents. This can help end big data's privacy problems, and Fellay's patients can be some of the first to benefit.
In 1978,the concept of Homomorphic Encryption(HE)was firstly proposed.According to it,one could encrypt and share data with others, who could analyze and perform calculations on the data with no idea what it means. After getting the data back, the data user could simply arrive at the result using the secret key and it will make total sense.
In 2009,Craig Gentry firstly provided a workable FHE program.Like HE,it rests on a mathematical idea called a homomorphism, which mostly relies on using algebra(代数)to map data from one form to another without changing its underlying structure. However,it supports multiple operations on encrypted data, rather than only one calculation in HE.
Later,Gentry went on to work at IBM,which now has complicated FHE tools to run encrypted data.In the medical field, for example,it detected signs of pneumonia(肺炎)infection by applying FHE to analyze the encrypted CT scans of more than 1,500 people's lungs. In a paper published in October 2021,the team used FHE to collect data from multiple sources and predicted the effect of cancer treatments or the process of HIV infection,as in Fellay's case.
Workable, but still slow: calculations on the FHE encrypted data could take millions of times longer than those on raw data. But,as Goldwasser said,“If you believe that security is not a plus, but it's a must, then in some sense there is no overhead.”

(2023·潮州市高三二模)When I was about six years old,my mother came home one day and found that I had collected half a dozen babies of the neighbourhood—all of them too young to walk—and had them sitting before me on the floor while I was teaching them to wave their arms. When she asked the explanation of this,I informed her that it was my school of dance. She was amused, and placing herself at the piano. She began to play for me.This school continued and became very popular.Later on,little girls of the neighbourhood came and their parents paid me a small sum to teach them. This was the beginning of what afterwards proved a very profitable occupation.
My mother took me to a famous ballet teacher, but his lessons did not please me.When the teacher told me to stand on my toes(脚趾)I asked him why,and when he replied“Because it is beautiful”,I said that it was ugly and against nature and after the third lesson I left his class, never to return. This stiff(僵硬)and commonplace gymnastics which he called dancing only disturbed my dream.I dreamed of a different dance.I did not know just what it would be,but I was feeling out towards an invisible world into which I guessed I might enter if I found the key.
My art was already in me when I was a little girl, and it was owing to the heroic and adventurous spirit of my mother that it was not prevented.I believe that whatever the child is going to do in life should be begun when it is very young.I wonder how many parents realize that by the so called education they are giving their children, they are only driving them into the commonplace, and taking away from them any chance of doing anything beautiful or original.

(2023·深圳市高三第二次调研)Endangered polar bears are breeding(繁殖)with grizzly bears(灰熊),creating “pizzly” bears, which is being driven by climate change, scientists say.
As the world warms and Arctic sea ice thins, starving polar bears are being forced ever further south, where they meet grizzlies, whose ranges are expanding northwards. And with that growing contact between the two come increasing hybrids(杂交种).
With characteristics that could give the hybrids an advantage in warming northern habitats, some scientists guess that they could be here to stay.“Usually, hybrids aren't better suited to their environments than their parents, but these hybrids are able to search for a broader range of food sources,”Larisa DeSantis,an associate professor of biological sciences at Vanderbilt University, told LiveScience.
The rise of“pizzly”bears appears with polar bears' decline:their numbers are estimated to decrease by more than 30% in the next 30 years. This sudden fall is linked partly to“pizzly”bears taking up polar bears' ranges, where they outcompete them, but also to polar bears' highly specialized diets.
“Polar bears mainly consumed soft foods even during the Medieval Warm Period,a previous period of rapid warming.”DeSantis said, referring to fat meals such as seals.“Although all of these starving polar bears are trying to find alternative food sources, like seabird eggs,it could beatippingpoint for their survival.”Actually, the calories they gain from these sources do not balance out those they burn from searching for them. This could result in a habitat ready for the hybrids to move in and take over, leading to a loss in biodiversity if polar bears are replaced.
“We're having massive impacts with climate change on species,”DeSantis said.“The polar bear is telling us how bad things are.In some sense,‘pizzly’bears could be a sad but necessary compromise given current warming trends.”

C.A positive factor.
D.A constant change.
解析:词义猜测题。根据倒数第二段画线词后文“Actually, the calories they gain from these sources do not balance out those they burn from searching for them.(事实上,他们从这些来源获得的热量并不能抵消他们在寻找这些来源时燃烧的热量。)”及下一句“This could result in a habitat ready for the hybrids to move in and take over, leading to a loss in biodiversity if polar bears are replaced.(这可能会导致一个栖息地准备好让杂交熊迁入并接管,如果北极熊被取代,将导致生物多样性的损失。)”可知,无法找到食物来源,北极熊很可能被灰熊取代,处于生存的关键点。画线句“Although all of these starving polar bears are trying to find alternative food sources, like seabird eggs,it could beatippingpoint for their survival.(尽管所有这些饥饿的北极熊都在努力寻找其他食物来源,比如海鸟蛋,但这可能是它们生存的转折点。)”,be a tipping point“转折点”,相当于A critical stage(关键阶段)。
答案:B
12.What's the main idea of the text
A.Polar bears are changing diets for climate change.
B.Polar bears have already adjusted to climate change.
C.“Pizzly”bears are on the rise because of global warming.
D.“Pizzly”bears have replaced polar bears for global warming.
解析:主旨大意题。根据第一段“Endangered polar bears are breeding with grizzly bears, creating“pizzly”bears, which is being driven by climate change, scientists say.(科学家称,受气候变化的驱动,濒危北极熊正在与灰熊一起繁殖,创造出‘小灰熊’。)”和倒数第二段“This could result in a habitat ready for the hybrids to move in and take over, leading to a loss in biodiversity if polar bears are replaced.(这可能会导致一个栖息地准备好让杂交熊迁入并接管,如果北极熊被取代,将导致生物多样性的损失。)”以及文章大意,可知由于全球变暖,“小灰熊”的数量正在上升。

Thisonlineconcertisabsolutelyfantastic. The performers from the two schools have done their best to entertain the audience with one song after another.Their performances are undoubtedly of high quality, which makes the concert almost no different from a live one.I enjoyed every second of the concert and was particularly attracted when the boys and girls from Britain started to perform the violin concerto LiangZhu.They performed the concerto in a way that touched my heart and gave me a feeling of connection.I hope there will be more opportunities in the future for students from China and our international friends to learn from each other.
