In 2015, Professor Wang Zhenyi, who specializes in treating acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) (急性早幼粒细胞白血病), received a letter of thanks from America. The writer of the letter was Mrs. Bernadette Giandomenico, who once suffered from APL but was cured with all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) (全反式维甲酸), a treatment developed by Wang and his medical team.
Working at Ruijin Hospital, Wang has been devoting his life to the treatment of leukemia. He received the country’s highest honor in science and technology in 2010.
Born in 1924 in Shanghai, Wang was inspired by a family friend’s experience of pursuing a career in medicine as a child. His grandmother's death caused by typhoid further strengthened his resolve to fight against diseases and rescue patients. With outstanding academic performance, Wang became a doctor at Guangci Hospital, today's Ruijin Hospital.
In 1978, a research paper from Israeli experts gave Wang inspiration on studying how leukemia cells could become normal. His research didn’t progress as expected, though. In 1983, another research paper shed light on his study. As the paper suggested, after being treated with 13-cis-retinoic acid, white blood cells in patients with APL could become normal. Considering the difficulties and high cost of producing a drug made from 13-cis-retinoic acid, Wang’s team decided to replace that ingredient with ATRA, and they finally verified its positive effect after several months’ experiments. In 1986, the drug was first adopted in treating a five-year-old patient. It turned out successful. After eight years of research, Wang’s team eventually made the first breakthrough in the battle against APL.
To make sure every APL patient could afford the medicine, Wang has not patented his research result to date. “One cannot be a real doctor if one does not have expertise in medicine,” Wang said in an interview. “However, without a kind heart, a skilled doctor may cause harm to patients.”
Having worked in the field of hematopathology (血液病理学) for over 70 years, Wang has been well recognized for his remarkable contribution to saving lives.
24. Why did Mrs. Giandomenico write a letter to Professor Wang
A. To express her appreciation. B.To share her battle against APL.
C. To ask for medical suggestions. D.To update information about her treatment.
25. What increased Wang’s determination to become a doctor
A.His grandmother’s death. B.His great academic achievement.
C.The inspiration from foreign experts. D.The example of a family friend.
26. What does the underlined word “verified” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Denied. B.Confirmed. C.Predicted. D. Assessed
27. What is the best title for the text
A.The application of ATRA B.The Chinese cure for APL patients
C.A doctor with the human touch D. A lifesaver with remarkable honor
C
First and foremost, “The Great Salmon Run” looks amazing. It is beautifully filmed, done in a completely natural and sometimes friendly way and never looking still. The editing is always brief and smooth and the scenery is pure magic. A wide diversity of the different landscapes are included rather than just one habitat. The music fits very well, beautiful and appropriate.
Again, like so many Attenborough nature/wildlife documentaries, “The Great Salmon Run” fascinates, teaches, moves, entertains and attracts. In terms of the facts, there was a very good mix of the known ones and the unknown. Some facts are familiar to us while some are going into details about the different animals, their challenges and some truly amazing wildlife events in their struggles for survival and interaction with other animals whether prey or predator.
Certainly, the salmons are a thing of beauty but the greyish brown bears similarly have impressive moments as well. It may not be new territory for Attenborough, but animals are what one can't get enough of. Besides, there is enough freshness to the material not to make one feel going round in circles but absorbed.
Narration (解说) by Attenborough helps significantly. He clearly knows his stuff and knows what to say and how to say it. He delivers it with his usual richness, soft-spoken enthusiasm and sincerity, never talking down to the viewers and keeping them wanting to know more. Viewers care for what goes on in front of and behind the camera.
At no point does “The Great Salmon Run” ever feel like just a series of scenes. Instead, it feels like its own story and journey, with real, complex emotions and conflicts and animal characters, all of which are developed in a way a human character would in a film.
Overall, amazing.
28. The writer thinks in narration, Attenborough ________.
A. changes his usual style
B. ignores what the viewers want to know
C. keeps the viewers interested
D. thinks what to say is more important than how to say it
29. According to the passage, what do we know about “The Great Salmon Run”
A. It is set in one main habitat.
B. It not only entertains.
C. It is Attenborough's finest work.
D. It focuses on the struggle between the salmon and man.
30. What is the writer's attitude towards “The Great Salmon Run”
A. He considers it average. B. He is negative about it.
C. He holds an objective view. D. He thinks highly of it.
31. The style of the article is ________.
A. a film review B. a description C. a journal D. an argument
D
A smiling panda and a walking Chinese lantern will be the mascots of the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics (残奥会)in Beijing .
The mascots were known to the public on Sept.17, 2019 at a ceremony in Beijing. Beijing Mayor Chen Jining described them as adorable, unique , and exquisite (精致的). He said they shows Chinese people’s longing for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in a visually appealing way and extends Chinese people’s warm invitation to friends throughout the world.
The panda, named Bing Dwen Dwen, is the Olympic mascot. Colorful circles around its face symbolize skating tracks and 5G technology, according to the website of the Beijing organizing committee. Bing, the Chinese word for “ice “, shows purity and strength, while Dwen Dwen means sincerity, liveliness, and health, the website said. The choice of the iconic animal, considered the national treasure, is not a surprise to people in China. While many applaud Bing Dwen Dwen for its cuteness on social media, some are not favorably impressed by the lack of creativity in choosing a panda. The giant panda was one of the five mascots of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, and it was also the symbol for the Asian Games in Beijing in 1990.
“Today is an important step on a milestone in Beijing’s journey to make history as the first ever, in Olympic history, to host both summer and winter editions of the Olympic Games, International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach said at the ceremony.
Based on a traditional red lantern, Paralympic mascot Shuey Rhon Rhon creates a cheerful atmosphere of the Chinese Lunar New Year, which will fall around the time of the Winter Games, the organizing committee said. It is sporting(穿戴)a yellow scarf, a circle of yellow doves around its head , and a traditional Chinese paper-cut . “Shuey” means snow in Chinese and “Rhon Rhon” means “inclusiveness” and “harmonization”, implying that the world civilizations communicate with each other and live in harmony, the committee said.
The two mascots were selected from more than 5800 submission from 35 countries.
32. What does Chen Jining think of Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon
A. They represent the IOC. B. They have great artistic value.
C. They show Chinese people’s hospitality. D. They have much room for improvement.
33. Why are some people not satisfied with choosing Bing Dwen Dwen
A. Because pandas are the national treasure.
B. Because it is too colorful for the Olympics.
C. Because its design is lacking in creativity.
D. Because a panda has been chosen as a mascot three times.
34. What record will Beijing set after hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics
A. The most athletes joining in the event.
B. The first Asian city to host the Olympics.
C. The first city to host two editions of the Olympics.
D. The longest time in history.
35. What can we learn about Shuey Rhon Rhon from the text
A. It is symbol of Chinese culture. B. It is designed by a foreign artist.

第二节 (满分25分)

Everything about moving day was a puzzle. I didn't know anything about our new building on a new street. Our old life was broken into pieces and packed up in piled boxes. I wondered if it would ever fit back together again.
Mom introduced me to our new neighbors, the Chens. Mrs Chen worked with Mom at the job she'd just started. Mr Chen was a famous craftsman(匠人) from China.
Mom said it was a fresh start, but it felt broken to me. I just wanted things to go back to how they had been before.
After the first day at my new school, I walked home alone. Mom had told me she had to work. I was still hoping she'd meet me after the bell. I had to open the door myself with the new key. I felt a bit hungry and went straight into the kitchen, ripping tape from the packed boxes while I searched for a clean plate. My fingers slipped, and something went crashing to the ground.
“Benjamin” cried Mom from the doorway. I didn't hear her come in. “What just broke ” she asked, kneeling to pick up the pieces. In her hands, I recognized the shattered pieces. It was Grandma's bowl. “I can't believe you broke this,” she said.
“Well, I can't believe we have to live here now! I can't believe I have to switch schools, and I can't believe you didn't even meet me after my first day” I ran into my room, slamming the door behind me.
The broom swept across the kitchen floor. Then the click of Mom's bedroom door closed behind her. I sneaked out into the kitchen and found the fragments in the dustbin. There were so many pieces in here, but maybe I could put them back together. Turning the pieces, I tried to match them, but this bowl would never look the same again.
“I'm sorry I yelled,” said Mom, as she opened her door. “Please just throw out the pieces. We can't make a fresh start with broken things.”
As I wandered down the hall, Mr Chen was emptying his garbage.

Text 10
W: I am here today to announce that I am running for the student body president! Many of my teachers were trying to convince me to run, and my parents thought it would be good for my future, but the real reason is you guys. I have been at this school for three full years, and I want to do something special before I leave for the University of Texas next year. Many people have promised to put new soda machines in the cafeteria or build a new baseball field. These might be popular choices, but I'd rather do something that will help everyone. I want to set up a technology lab that all students and teachers will have access to. Sirra Nevada High School is the only one of public high schools in California that still doesn't have modern computers. Studies show that technology skills are what employers are looking for in the 21st century, and everyone here should learn them. We’ll be able to offer a whole new set of classes, and we can use the technology lab to do our homework, research topics for papers, and relax between classes. Vote for me if you want to see this great idea become a reality. Thank you!

故填it。

写作
My dream job
Good morning, everyone. I feel it an honor to address a speech titled “My dream job”.
Of the wide range of jobs around us, I will choose to be a teacher. My mother accounts for my choice first. Her commitment to teaching and happiness of being a teacher motivate me. Additionally, it is the inquisitive faces from my future students that reinforce my idea. At last, I am eager to make a difference to those for whom education is their only ticket to success. Not only will I spare no effort to learn my lessons, but I will also develop some qualities required to be a good teacher. Thank you!
读后续写
Paragraph 1:
“Are you sure you want to throw that out ” he asked. My throat twisted into a knot. “It's broken,” I murmured. “That's a simple e.” In their apartment, Mr Chen spread the broken pieces out like a jigsaw puzzle. After finding each match, he taught me to delicately rebuild the bowl, filling in the crack lines with a special paint. Finally, the bowl was together again. I held it gently in the palm of my hand and admired it for long. Slightly different, it was as beautiful as before. I couldn't wait to show it to Mom and rushed back home.
Paragraph 2:
I brought the repaired bowl into her room. Obviously, she was more than surprised to see the bowl again. “It's amazing” she marveled, running her fingertip over the fixed cracks. “Mr Chen helped me mend it. He is a superb craftsman,” I said with a grin. “Definitely. After being repaired, it looks much stronger than before” said Mom, smiling radiantly. I sat on the edge of her bed, and Mom reached out to me. Our hands joined with crisscrossed fingers; we both knew this was a new beginning.
