Giving pandas a good life
What animal has 6 fingers and wears a black and white coat Yes, it’s the panda! Pandas are so popular because they are cute and shy. They are also friendly to people. They like eating bamboo. It seems that they like sleeping all day if possible.
It is known that pandas are endangered. For one thing, many people cut down lots of trees so they may have terrible living conditions. For another, they may die of illnesses easily because many of them are out of protection.
I hope the government can build more natural panda homes. Also, it is necessary that everyone should treat them as our friends and protect their homes.八年级英语练习

The koala
Appearance:
Size: 70—90cm Weight: 5—14kg
The koala with thick hair looks cute but it has very sharp teeth and claws (爪子).
The male koala is larger than the female one.
Food: The koala eats eucalyptus leaves (桉树叶). Each koala eats about 500 grams of leaves per day.
Habit: The koala sleeps for up to 16—18 hours. It prefers to move around in the evening.
Baby fact: A healthy female koala can have one child each year. A baby koala is very small when it is born—only a quarter of an inch. It has no hair and it can’t see either. It lives in its mother’s pouch (育儿袋) for half a year. During this time, it only drinks its mother’s milk.
Danger: The number of koalas in Australia is getting smaller every year, mainly because of people. People cut down a lot of trees, so many koalas have no places to live in and they don’t have enough leaves to eat. There are fewer than 100,000 koalas in the world. Some scientists say if people don’t protect them, we won’t have any koalas within 30 years.

Animals do many different, amazing things to get through the winter. Some of them migrate. They travel to other places where the weather is warmer or where they can find food.
Many birds migrate in autumn. The trip can be dangerous, so some travel in large groups. For example, geese(鹅) fly in noisy, “V”-shaped groups. Other kinds of birds fly alone.
Some animals stay active in winter. They must change themselves as the weather changes. Many change their bodies. For example, snowshoe rabbits grow white fur to help them hide in the snow.
Some animals, like mice, collect lots of food in autumn and store it to eat later. Some animals eat different kinds of food as the seasons change.
Some animals hibernate(冬眠) for part or all of the winter. This is a special, very deep sleep. The animal’s body becomes cold, and its heartbeat and breathing(呼吸) slow down. It seldom moves. In autumn, these animals get ready for winter by eating much more food than in summer and storing it as body fat. They use this fat to keep them alive while hibernating.
Water makes good protection for many animals. When the weather gets cold, they move to the bottom of lakes and rivers. There, frogs and many fish hide under rocks or fallen leaves. Cold water holds more oxygen(氧气) than warm water, and frogs can breathe through their skin.
Every type of insect has its own life cycle and that is the way it grows and changes. Different insects spend the winter in different forms of their lives. Some insects also spend the winter without moving. Some insects spend the winter as pupae(蛹). Other insects die after laying eggs in autumn. The eggs change into new insects in spring and everything begins all over again.

Owls are active mainly at night. They hunt when it’s dark. Most of us go for our work and study in the daytime. We almost never see owls, but many of us like these night birds very much. Our love for owls has a long history, and it’s in all cultures. No matter how far you go back, there is always some type of art work or story that includes an owl. These days, we can find owls on company logos, in children’s books, etc. So what makes owls so popular
Some bird researchers believe owls’ popularity lies largely in their “cool” looks. In order to see clearly in the dark, owls have evolved (进化) to have large eyes. Unlike human eyes, their eyes are cylindrical (圆筒状的). So owls cannot roll (翻转) their eyes. Their heads have to do most of the rolling-around work. It’s also for this reason that owls can turn their heads almost around on their necks.
Owls also use sound to hunt. Their ears are lopsided (不平衡)—the left ear is a little higher than the right ear. A noise goes in one ear before it arrives in the other. This helps owls tell which direction a sound is coming from. To make their sense of hearing even better, the owl’s whole face acts like a satellite dish (圆盘式卫星接收器) for sound waves. Their beaks (鸟喙) are very small so that they won’t get in the way.
Thanks to such unusual looks and abilities, owls became known as strange and wonderful animals. For a long time, people made up lots of myths (神话) about them. Some have described owls as the goddess of wisdom. Some say owls are witches (女巫) in disguise (伪装). These stories have made more people become interested in owls and made them become more popular!

C.their necks are too short D. their eyes are cylindrical
63.According to Paragraph 3, where are owl’s ears usually located (位于)

D.They turn their heads almost around on their necks.

Nowadays, people usually shake hands when they meet each other. Do the Chinese always greet others like this In fact, handshaking was introduced to our country around 100 years ago.
There were several kinds of greeting in ancient China. Among them the fist and palm salute(拱手礼) was a quite common one, with a history of about 3,000 years. It was first used by people in the western Zhou Dynasty. In ancient times, if people met a stranger, their hands were always ready to hold something used for fighting. Holding out both hands could make people feel relaxed.
When people meet, men usually use their left hand to hold the right one. It’s believed that people considered the left as the important side for men in Chinese history. While for women, the important side is the right. So when they give the fist and palm salute, they should put their right hand on the top. When someone presents the fist and palm salute to you, you are supposed to do it back as well.
In many wuxia or kung fu TV series and movies, people greet each other with the hold fist salute, or baoquan in Chinese. The gesture(手势) is that the right hand is made a fist, while the left hand is to cover the right fist. It’s similar to the fist and palm salute, but they are different. Baoquan is widely used among kung fu masters and students. So, don’t make a mistake.
