painkilling chemicals when they first puncture (刺穿) the skin. But there is another reason, The
point of a mosquito's saw-like proboscis (锯齿状的喙)is softer at its tip. The insect makes the
skin of its target tight before biting, and shakes its proboscis as it pushes the proboscis in. All of
this helps reduce the force needed to puncture the skin.”(该团队从蚊子那里得到了他们的想
法,蚊子能够在不给人类带来巨大痛苦的情况下获取血液。其中一个原因是昆虫在第一次
刺穿皮肤时会使用止痛化学物质。但还有另一个原因,蚊子锯齿状的喙尖更柔软。这种昆

market for better needles. According to WHO, around 16 billion injections were given in
2018. With one person in four saying they suffer from a fear of needles, the savings on stickers
and sweets for the brave souls who roll up their sleeves would be considerable.”(目前,这类设

B“So we need to learn to deal with defeat.(所以我们需要学会面对失败。)”与下文内容一
致,指的都是学会面对失败。故选 B。

winners and congratulate them.(几乎没有人愿意在比赛中屈居第二,但只有一个人能成为冠
军。没有必要因失败而气馁。相反,接受失败,勇敢地面对它,相信失败是成功之母。认
识到成功者并向他们表示祝贺。)”可知,本段主要讲述的是要正确地看待失败。选项 A“Keep

参加一项记分的运动时,我们有责任在比赛规则和比赛精神的范围内尽我们最大的努力赢
得比赛。)”可知,上文讲述的是赢得比赛确实很有趣。选项 G“But winning becomes a negative
when it is a team’s only goal.(但是当胜利是团队唯一的目标时,胜利就变成了消极的东西。)”

66. Dear Jack,
I am more than glad to know that you are interested in Chinese acupuncture, which has
amazed many people around the world.
Chinese acupuncture has a long history, dating back to the Stone Age. With the
development of Chinese traditional medicine, the original stone needles were replaced by the
metal ones, which included nine different needles.
Some of the medical problems that can be treated by acupuncture include severe pains,
headaches, injures, stomach problems and high blood pressure. It is also employed to treat
smokers, alcoholics and people who are addicted to drugs.
Acupuncture was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List in2010. And it
has been widely used around the world.
I hope the information I offered can be of use to you.
Yours,
Li Hua
67.One possible version:
Suddenly, Mary caught sight of a black box under the chair where Linda put her bag. She
went over and then opened the box to find Linda’s tape was just inside. At that time, she was in a
dilemma, “This is my chance to defeat her.” But on a second thought, she changed her mind, “If
I hide it, I will win the competition but I may lose something.” Mary also rushed out to look for
Linda. At that moment, Linda came back in low spirits. Mary handed the box to her and said,
“Take it easy, we are the best.” Soon, it’s her turn to come on the stage.
Linda finished her dancing successfully and then came Mary’s turn. Hearing her name
called, Mary walked on the stage with her heart beating faster and faster. She kept reminding
herself, “Don’t be nervous. I have been practicing for so long, and I will certainly make it.” But
the serious pain in her arm came again when she was performing the most difficult spin. She fell
down on the stage. Linda and Jessica rushed over to help her up. Finally, Mary lost the game. A
little down as she was, she still felt proud of herself. After all, winning isn’t everything.

M: Hello, everybody. Welcome back to our program. I’m Cliff. Today I’d like to talk about
blind boxes. The blind box attracts young people’s attention and makes toy makers a fortune.
Blind boxes were first popular in Japan and later spread to China, Thailand and other countries.
The blind box market was worth 7.4 billion yuan, that was,$1.14 billion in 2019 according to
research. It will increase to 30 billion yuan by 2024.But once in a while, a rare or even “hidden”
item-one that does not appear in advertisements for the range-will appear in the box, which
raises a storm of collection. Wang Ke, a big fan of toy collectors, has ever been in a queue
overnight for new products. She said buying blind boxes was mainly for a sense of mystery and
an uncertain surprise. Many young people think blind boxes can comfort their heart, reducing
the pressure from work and life, which brings a sudden increase in the blind box market. But it
has not escaped criticism, with state media comparing the trend to addiction. OK. That’s all for
today. Thanks for listening.

Various sports attract fans for different reasons: Spectator sports draw even more fans who
just love to watch. Here are some of the most beloved sports worldwide.
Hockey-2 billion fans
Hockey, both on ice and on a field, wins a following of two billion enthusiastic fans
worldwide. Field hockey is mainly played in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, while ice
hockey is particularly popular in Canada and the US, where kids grow up playing pond hockey.
Unlike ice hockey, field hockey usually does not involve body contact in the form of checking
and hitting.
Football-4 billion fans
Football, better known as soccer in the US, is by far the most popular sport in the world.
Experts estimate that the origin (起源 ) of football may go as far back as two thousand years,
beginning in ancient China during the Han Dynasty. One major reason for football’s global
popularity is that unlike other sports that require expensive equipment, all you need to play
football is a ball and your feet.
Volleyball-900 million fans
Volleyball pits two teams across a high net, each attempting to smash the ball onto the
opponent’s floor. A popular variant, beach volleyball, is competed on sand by pairs rather than
the regular six players per team. The crowd appeal of beach volleyball has grown greatly in
recent years.
Tennis-1 billion fans
An estimated one billion people worldwide follow professional tennis tournaments and
matches. In tennis, players on both sides of a net try to hit a ball with a racket so that it either
goes past their opponent (对手) or bounces twice on their opponent’s side of the court to score
points. Tennis superstars like Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams are now household names
around the world, with huge international fan bases.
21.Which sport attracts the most fans according to the text
A.Volleyball. B.Hockey. C.Football. D.Tennis.
22.What makes football popular all over the world

For three days, the doctor didn’t get single patient. Then on the fourth day, a woman opened
the door to his office, saw him and ran away.
“I had to run after her, saying I can help her with the problem,” said Diarra Boubacar. The
53-year-old still has a good laugh when he talks about his first day working as a doctor of
traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) at a private hospital in Chengdu, Sichuan province.
“If my approach is not effective, I will not take any money from you,” he promised the
woman. The woman finally accepted his treatment and felt better. “She started bringing her
parents and her husband, and they all became my patients.”
Born in the African country of Mali, Boubacar first came to China in 1984 on a student
exchange programme majoring in Chinese language and culture at Beijing Language and
Culture University. After the course, he studied TCM at Guangzhou University of Chinese
Medicine.
Since TCM is also related to Chinese history and culture, students have to study ancient
Chinese literature as most of the medical texts were written in ancient Chinese characters.
“That’s a subject even the Chinese find difficult; so think of me, a foreigner!” he said.
However, the greatest challenge for him was to convince people that even though he was a
foreigner, he could still treat them effectively with TCM.
Besides his work in the community, Boubacar is also known as the “African Norman
Bethune”. Doctor Bethune was a Canadian frontline doctor who ran mobile hospital in north
China in the 1930s.
“I want to build not only a hospital but also an educational centre where people can come
and learn about Chinese medicine,” Boubacar said.
He plans to build a hospital with an educational centre where people can learn TCM in
Africa. “If they learn TCM, they will be able to treat people in Africa in a very cheap and
effective way.”
24.Why did the woman introduce her family to Boubacar
A.The treatment is free. B.The curative effect is good.
C.It is a private hospital. D.The doctor is from Africa.
25.What was Boubacar’s original intention of coming to China
A.To run an educational centre. B.To start a private hospital.
C.To learn Chinese language and culture. D.To learn from Norman Bethune,

The liver (肝脏) cleans the blood and helps remove poison from the body. But liver cancer
is the sixth most common cancer in the world, and now researchers are developing a new form
of treatment. They say it reduces the chances of harming the patient.
This treatment involves the use of natural, non-poisonous chemicals from plants. That is
why the researchers call it a “green” method for fighting cancer.
Kattesh Katti is a professor of radiology and physics at the University of Missouri’s School
of Medicine. For more than 10 years, he has studied the use of nanotechnology (纳米技术) to
fight cancer.
Nanotechnology is the science of making things unimaginably small. For this study, Katti
used extremely small objects to target and destroy cancer cells in the livers of mice and human
cells in the laboratory.
Kattesh Katti used very small particles (颗粒) of gold. The gold was covered in a protective
material. He says the particles attract cancer cells. Those cells are far more affected by lower
levels of heat than healthy cells.
Once the particles travel to and connect with the cells, they are heated with a laser. That
destroys the cancer cells, but the healthy ones around them live. Katti explained, “The patient
will be administered with these nano particles. Within a couple of hours, the patient will be
treated with lasers, and then the patient can go home. So, there is no radioactivity. There is no
harmful waste. There is no bad effect on the patient.”
What that means is that the patient would not have the same side effects that one can have
from radiation and chemotherapy (化疗).Chemotherapy drugs often are poisonous. While they
kill off the cancer cells, they are also poisonous to the healthy cells and the patient can get very
sick.
28.Why is the new form of treatment called a “green” method
A.It avoids the opportunities of hurting the patient.
B.Chemicals used in treatment are natural and harmless.
C.It helps clean the blood and remove poison from the body.

A.He has been a professor in cancer research for over a decade.
B.He used nanotechnology to make small particles into gold.
C.He used nanotechnology to kill cancer cells in the hospital.
D.He thinks nano particles can treat cancer patients more effectively
30.What’s Katti’s attitude toward the new method of treatment
A.Doubtful. B.Uncaring. C.Positive. D.Worried.
31.What’s the best title for the text
A.Can fighting cancer be green B.Researchers can deal with liver cancer
C.Liver cancer is not a big problem D.Which is better, radiation or chemotherapy

Using needles to deliver drugs has been common for more than a century. The past hundred
years have seen all manner of medical advances, from life-saving medicine and X-rays to mRNA
vaccines and special cancer treatments. Yet the needle has stayed mostly unchanged. Although
now available in a variety of different sizes, it remains a hollow (having a hole or empty space
inside), pointy tube.
With luck, that may soon change. As Yichi Ma, a scientist at the University of California,
Berkeley, and his colleagues outline in a review paper, researchers around the world are looking
for ways to ease the pain when needles go into the skin. Many have been inspired by nature.
The team got their idea from mosquitoes, which manage to get their blood meals without
causing great pain to people. One reason is that the insects use painkilling chemicals when they
first puncture the skin. But there is another reason, The point of a mosquito's saw-like proboscis
(锯齿状的喙) is softer at its tip. The insect makes the skin of its target tight before biting, and
shakes its proboscis as it pushes the proboscis in. All of this helps reduce the force needed to
puncture the skin.
One paper, published in 2020 by a group of researchers in America and China, found that a
mosquito-inspired needle required 27% less puncturing force than an ordinary one. And less
force means less pain. Mosquito-inspired needles might also be useful for delicate procedures
such as biopsies (the examination of tissue taken from a living body). A paper from the
University of Michigan, also published in 2020, found that scientists could improve biopsies of
tissue in some body organs. The lower force led to less movement of the organ itself, ensuring
that the needles were guided accurately to the area that needed sampling.
For now, such devices remain limited to labs. But there is a big market for better needles.
According to WHO, around 16 billion injections were given in 2018. With one person in four
saying they suffer from a fear of needles, the savings on stickers and sweets for the brave souls

Most athletes and parents would agree that sportsmanship is an important aspect of athletics.
Although it comes in many forms, everyone can list what sportsmanship looks like. We shake
hands before and after games. 36 These examples are just displaying good
sportsmanship.
It is easy for parents and kids to get caught up in a game and become too focused on
winning. Although winning is important, it is not always the most important aspect of the game.
37 Good sportsmanship is one of those life lessons that should be intentionally learned,
taught and practiced.
No matter how much we would like to, we cannot win at everything every time. 38
After a hard-fought game, the loser felt frustrated in a losing effort. It can be very difficult to
look your opponents in the eye and tell them “good job”. But this is what is asked of athletes.

39 Almost nobody is willing to come second in a game, but only one can be
champion. There is no need to be overcome with defeat. Instead, accept failure and face up to it
bravely, believing failure is the mother of success. Recognize the winners and congratulate them.
Winning is fun! It is the reward for your hard work. When we participate in a sport that
keeps score, it is our responsibility to the team to do our best to win within the rules of the game
and within the spirit of the game. 40
A.Keep losing in perspective.
B.So we need to learn to deal with defeat.

D.We clap for injured players once they are on their feet.
E.There is so much to be gained from an athletic experience.

she said to herself, “I can dance on the national stage next month.” Three months ago, her left
arm was seriously injured in a car accident. After the medical treatment, she began to recover
slowly. She practiced over and over again in order to regain her dancing skills.
“Hi, Mary,” in rushed her friend Jessica “How is your arm Is it going to influence your
performance ”
“I guess it can be tolerated for I am to win the match.” said Mary with a determined look.
“Admirable! But I hear that a girl called Linda is really gifted and strong. She can be your
real well-matched e on!”
After Jessica left, Mary decided to practice her most difficult spin. “If I don’t try harder, I
won’t grasp this chance.” She thought. But her arm began to hurt, making her worried. “Mary,
what makes you think you have a chance tonight ” she said to herself. After the pain was gone,
she continued to warm up.
A slim girl hurried in and put down an equipment bag on the chair. Then, she took out her
dance dress quickly and put it on skillfully. Seeing Mary, she smiled politely and said “Hi, I’m
Linda. I am the next one!” Mary nodded in reply but felt uncomfortable. “This is just my
competitor. Because of her, I may lose tonight.” Her mind was wandering when Linda let out a
scream, “Oh, God, I can’t find my music tape!” Linda searched her bag but in vain. “It may be
missing on the way.” With these words, she then rushed out.
