My grandma, Elena, pulled me on stage for our routine to entertain the crowd. At five years old, I needed no encouragement to perform. Like my grandma, formerly a professional dancer, I loved the spotlight, and soon became addicted to the applause (鼓掌).
I was Grandma's willing partner, always ready to kick off a show with her on stage. Each week, Grandma came to my parents' home so that we could practice our performances. "Choose whatever you like," Grandma said. "You can wear whatever you want."
Grandma didn't mind at all if I chose to wear high-heeled shoes on stage. To her, I was a natural performer. Wearing them was simply considered as artistic expression. On my first night on stage, I dressed up as Madonna in a white skirt, singing a song of her and I won many praises.
One year, after being attracted by the movie 101 Dalmatians, I decided to act Cruella de Vil, a role in it. Performing on the stage with my black frock (连衣裙), a handbag and a cigarette holder, I enjoyed the audience's laughter, and it was like music to my ears. "You're a natural actor," Grandma said after the show.
Today, I always perform at the hugely popular theatre. Going up on stage feels like being at home. That's how I make a living and I find the place where I belong. In July this year, I headed to the Gold Coast, where Grandma lives. Now 95 and still my biggest fan, she saw me perform my new act for the first time and loved it.
She has been my lifelong inspiration and support, but I can never repay her, She always loved me for who I was and now, I'm finally the person who I was always meant to be.

When Gayle Macdonald reached the summit (顶峰) in Spain's Sierra Nevada mountain range earlier this year, she didn't just stop and take in the moment, Instead, she did what a great many people would do-she looked for the best spot to take a selfie (自拍) for her social media accounts, Gayle even admitted that she moved dangerously close to the edge while doing so. It was after that moment that she decided to quit social media.
"I was like ‘this has got to stop,' " recalls Gayle. "Taking a photo used to be the first thing I thought about when I got out of the car. Thinking all the time about creating content and worrying about what to say, were taking up too much head space and getting me down."
Social media can be addictive for many reasons, the main one being that it is a form of escapism, especially for the younger generation. It's simply a way of connecting without connection, and it's a 24/7 comfort blanket of company for many. For many of us, most of our time is spent on social media. One global study found that the average person spends 2 hours and 29 minutes per day on such apps and websites. While some people might think that this is a bad habit that they should cut down on, for others it's an actual addiction that they need help to overcome.
Hilda Burke, a psychotherapist (心理治疗师), says there's now more widespread awareness about how much time people are spending on social media. "This is now easily to figure up, as most phones show you the breakdown of how you're spending your time online," she says. "Seeing how it all adds up can serve as a powerful wake-up call." She advises that people quitting social media should let all their friends know, so they don't continue to try to contact you via the sites, Burke welcomes the fact that more people are quitting social media. It's likely that we're eventually starting to realize the damage it can cause to our relationships, mental health and our experience of real-world moments.
32.How does the author introduce the topic of the text
A.By giving an example. B.By describing a process.
C.By making a comparison. D.By providing research results.
33.What may Gayle think of her frequently updating posts on social media

C.Inspiring. D.Fashionable.
34.Where can you find the reasons for teenagers' addiction to social media
A.In paragraph 2. B.In paragraph 5.

"今年早些时候,当Gayle Macdonald到达西班牙内华达山脉的顶峰时,她并没有停下来享受这一刻。相反,她做了很多人都会做的事——为自己的社交媒体账号找一个最好的自拍地点。Gayle甚至承认,在这样做的时候,她很危险地靠近了悬崖边缘。就在那一刻之后,她决定退出社交媒体。以及下文内容可知,文章举例来引出本文的主题,即社交媒体让人上瘾,人们需要克服对社交媒体的上瘾。故选A。

34.考查细节理解。根据第三段中的"Social media can be addictive for many reasons, the main one being that it is a form of escapism, especially for the younger generation. "社交媒体让人上瘾的原因有很多,最主要的原因是它是一种逃避现实的方式,尤其是对年轻一代来说。可知,第三段分析了青少年对社交媒体上瘾的原因。故选D。
35.考查标题归纳。根据最后一段中的"Burke welcomes the fact that more people are quitting social media. It's likely that we're eventually starting to realize the damage it can cause to our relationships, mental health and our experience of real-world moments."

From there, Eli often cut through a blank lot (空地) where a house used to be. The house burned down years ago, but there were still flowers and trees to show that people used to live there. Everything was usual, but everything was immersed (沉浸在) in Eli's sadness.
At that time, Eli watched a blue jay (蓝松鸦) fly into the old maple tree at the blank lot. The bird sat on a low branch and screamed loudly. It was as if the blue jay knew that he was sad, for he had failed his math test again. And he wrote a letter to Aunt Lucy. But Aunt Lucy did not reply to him.
When he got home, there was something in his mailbox. He found it was from Aunt Lucy, who lived in a different town. Upon opening it, his eyes widened with delight. It was a letter he looked forward to and a book! Eli read the letter.
Dear Eli, You told me that you didn't do well in math. I hope you don't give up and don't get discouraged by a few failures. Because you once told me that you wanted to be a math teacher when you grew up and helped more children. I gave you a book. It's about a great scientist you liked, I hoped you, like him, had been studying hard and sticking to your dream.
Love,
Aunt Lucy
After reading Aunt Lucy's letter and receiving her encouragement, Eli's sad mood improved a lot. Eli took the book and rushed to show it to his father, saying that it was the best gift he had ever received. His father smiled, noting Eli's happy smile.

On December 14, 1972, three NASA astronauts (宇航员) left the moon. Two had just completed their stay there for NASA's Apollo 17 mission (任务). During that time, astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt walked across the lunar (月球的) surface. Meanwhile, astronaut Ronald Evans kept control of the command module, When the astronauts returned to Earth, they became the last humans to visit the moon.
Now, about 50 years later, astronauts are getting ready to go back. But this time will be different. On November 16, 2022, NASA launched (发射) its Artemis 1. The agency's new Space Launch System rocket lifted off in Florida and began its first voyage toward the moon. No one was on board. Once Apollo ended, NASA shifted its focus to space stations as preparation for longer human spaceflights. America's first space station, Skylab, launched in May 1973, hosted four crews of astronauts that year and the next, But Skylab was meant to be only a temporary station.

When the final school bell rang, Eli walked home as usual. His trip took him across the playground, past the T-shirt factory, and across the main street.
